America Sick and Tired--and it's Not Just COVID

Victor Davis Hanson, one of America's most respected and trusted historians and Hoover Institute senior fellow, wrote yesterday: "Critical race theory, capitalists, rich CEOs and more---what is US wokeness really about?"

He says, "The woke madness coincides with an epidemic of crises that go largely ignored as a distracted America cannibalizes itself."

Hanson lays it out in black and white---literally--- and says what many---perhaps most Americans are thinking.

Why are we cannibalizing ourselves?

Be informed, not misled.

Sports and entertainment are no longer about sports and entertainment.

"Most Americas were as indifferent to the US women's soccer team's recent loss to Sweden in the Olympics," he says, "as they were excited about the team's World Cup win in 2019."

He says, "In between was the team's nonstop politicking, from whining about compensation to virtue-signaling their disrespect for the United States. The celebrity face of the team, perennial scold Megan Rapinoe, is going the way of teenage grouch Greta Thunberg, becoming more pinched the more she is tuned out."

NBC, who are airing the Olympics, is suffering some of the worst ratings in television history. It isn't only women's soccer or the Olympics---it's pretty much all sports all the time. To Hanson's point, America is getting sick and tired of tuning in to watch their favorite sport or home team, only to be beat over the head with constant "politicking" and wokeness. Generally about how bad America is.

NBC's ratings are following the downward trajectory of the NFL's ratings. Woke sports earn the same public disgust as the accusatory and boring Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards.

He notes, "Never has TV been more politicized. Sitcoms, dramas, and commercials are designed more to resonate woke messaging than to entertain. So naturally, TV ratings reflect the expected boredom that ensues when art serves politics."

When "racism" becomes a business model.

Victor Davis Hanson---VDH, as he is sometimes called, also turns the light on oppressive racism in America: "Black lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors Brignac used her corporate grifting to buy four homes. The one she bought in California's Topanga Canyon is surrounded by a new $35,000 security fence."

He also notes that critical race theory guru Ibram X. Kendi charges $20,000 for his one-hour workshops and is now franchising woke re-education kits---in between bouts of damning capitalism as a catalyst of racism.

Hanson observes that the "woke movement" of today is much slicker, more sophisticated, and far more grandiose than the version of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson's shakedowns of the 1990s.

"Those at least," he says, "were far more honest in leveraging cash with charges of racism---and came without the gobbledygook of critical race theory."

A time of dishonesty, insanity, and corruption.

Most Americans are sick and tired of being told one thing, then told something very different by the same voice.

Dishonesty. Hanson asks, "How many times will disingenuous Dr. Anthony Fauci swear that he never sent federal money to the Wuhan virology lab for gain-of-function research, or blame critics for pointing out his gyrating advice on masks, or offer yet another noble lie on herd immunity."

Fewer than 24 hours after Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered people to wear masks again for the safety of all, she is pictured at a wedding reception where hundreds of unmasked guests are served by dozens of wait staff. Mayor Bowser, herself, also unmasked.

Insanity:

The bankrupt Boy Scouts of America proudly announced last week  "A biologically female high schooler is Virginia's first transgender 'nonbinary' Eagle Scout." BSA has lost its collective mind.

Corruption:

In an article yesterday in Townhall, Wayne Ally Root says: "I know exactly who is to blame for this new wave of COVID-19, and I know who is making a fortune on it."

It's an interesting and informative article. In it, he identifies #1 as Big Pharma. He says, "Biden, Fauci, and the CDC are clearly shilling for Big Pharma and the vaccine manufacturers. Those vaccine companies are making a killing (excuse the pun)."

He identifies China as culprit #2, noting that "Blaming 'unvaccinated Americans' is a weapon of mass distraction. This is China's pandemic. He claims that China created a worldwide economic depression, and it isn't over yet."

"Biden," he says is "itching to demand another national lockdown."

Culprit #3, Root says, is Biden himself and his handling of the southern border crises.

He says Biden encouraged them to come to America, although they are from "the most poverty-stricken countries of the world. They are starving; they live among filth and squalor. They are therefore weak and their immune systems damaged. They bring with them Third World illnesses and diseases."

"Biden not only encouraged them to come, let them in and delivered them free of charge into communities across America to spread the disease, but also blamed it all on conservative patriots... What a scam," he says.

He concludes, as Victor Davis Hanson has, "America is being destroyed from within."

Why are we allowing this to happen? The leftist movement, which is currently in power, is destroying America, American exceptionalism, capitalism, and the great American middle class, but the trillions of dollars continue to flow to the culprits.

Victor Davis Hanson says: "The border is being breached at a time of pandemic. Migrants barge in without either COVID testing or vaccinations---during a coronavirus spike that has government officials talking about going door to door to roust out American citizens to get vaccinated."

And "Whiteness is supposedly the cause of Americans' problems. But our inner cities are suffering historic levels of violent crime. Couldn't our critical race theory accusers take time out from their merchandising to address the soaring violence?"

No, they can't, because in reality, it's not about helping anyone or anything except themselves.

Wokeness is many things.  And it's becoming clear that it's a cover for careerism, profiteering, and utter incompetence."

Takeaway

James Garfield published "A Century of Progress" in the Atlantic Journal in 1877, a hundred years after the Constitution was given to us by our Founders:

"Now more than ever," he wrote, "the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature...[I]f the next centennial does not find us a great nation ...it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces."

With an election looming on the horizon, this is a time for people of faith to stand strong. And take bold action.

I have often thought about ways I could be on the air each weekday morning live, write this column each day and circulate among the people of the West planning and organizing to maximize our godly influence in regards to what Garfield called "The character of our Congress"---and I would add, the character of our state legislatures and local official offices.

Clearly, I can not be in all places at one time. But I'm praying about how we could amplify our message here and on the radio while coordinating meaningful and effective action to lead in spiritual renewal and political change.

Thank you for praying with me about this. I believe God can do great things in times of great distress.

Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Bold. Be Prayerful.
