The Left Digs Their Own Political Grave?

Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was given a "No." The Senate rejected his so-called "Women's Health Protection Act" 49 to 51.

He forced Democrats to vote on an extreme abortion bill that most everyone knew could not pass. It's called a "show vote."

Even NBC tried to convince him not to take the vote, but the Left in America is so obsessed with abortion that the leadership is blind to moral restraint. And even commonsense.

While Schumer and Nacy Pelosi, who was with him all the way, thought it important to take the vote, the vote dug a politically deep hole---possibly a political grave for some Democrats whom Schumer pushed toward the political cliff.

While the bill thankfully failed, it sheds light on where the leftist leadership wants to take our country.

Be informed, not misled.

NBC News was pulling for Schumer---as they always do. They did their best to convince him not to take the vote.

On Tuesday, NBC said, "Democrats are once again headed for a show vote — this time on abortion — that risks dividing their party, depressing their base, and looks all but certain to be defeated."

They were right.

They continued, “Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer officially set into motion the procedure [Monday] afternoon to have a key procedural vote on the Democratic bill to provide federal protections for abortion rights on Wednesday. The vote’s timing is still TBD, but is expected in the afternoon on Wednesday, and is still expected to fall short of the 60 votes needed to pass."

They were right again.

The certainty of Schumer's failure.

Why would he force this upon his own party members, knowing it would fail?

Katie Pavlich, with Townhall, said yesterday that Schumer is forcing Democrats to walk the plank of abortion.

Schumer's rationale was that the bill would allow "The American people to see where every single U.S. Senator stands."

He's right. It did.

For days Schumer and House Speaker Pelosi argued with their people that the legislation codified Roe v Wade, which actually wasn't true. However, it went far beyond a so-called "woman's right to choose." which gives us all a good look at where the Left really wants to take our country.

Here's a quick overview of Schumer and the Left's goals for America:

  1. It created a right to abortion throughout all 9 months of pregnancy in all 50 states.
  2. It struck down almost all state laws on abortion, including parental-consent laws supported by more than 70% of Americans.
  3. It gutted conscience and religious liberty protections.
  4. It created a right for non-doctors to perform abortions.
  5. It prohibited state laws from banning sex-selective abortions---for example allowing the killing of baby girls in the womb because they are girls.

Charles Cooke wrote in the National Review on Tuesday:

"This week’s show vote is destined to be a disaster for the Democrats. Not only will the bill fail, infuriating the party’s base; it will fail while putting the party’s vulnerable senators on the record in defense of a remarkably extreme position that, were it to be advanced, would also require the abolition of the filibuster. At present, there is a great deal of confusion among voters as to what overturning Roe v. Wade would actually do. Given the right set of circumstances, that confusion could plausibly redound to the Democrats’ benefit. Holding a televised vote to legalize abortions in all circumstances during all nine months of pregnancy, while destroying the Senate in the bargain, is unlikely to yield such a result."

He was right. The bill didn't pass. The title of his article: "Chuck Schumer: Keeps Leading Senate Democrats to the Slaughter"---politically speaking, of course---pretty well sums up the current political climate.

Cooke concludes his article with: "There’s a lesson there — but Schumer clearly hasn’t learned it."

There is also a biblical proverb there that we all better learn.

“Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him” (Proverbs 26:27).

Hunters once caught wild animals by digging a pit and covering it with a thin layer of dirt. The animal, not seeing the pit beneath the leaves and grass, would fall into it. The wicked dig similar pits for good men---for righteousness, but they fall into their own pit.

In ancient war, men would roll great stones – too heavy to lift – from walls or cliffs to crush their enemies. But God promises the evil that their devices will roll back upon them: (Pr 28:10; Ps 7:15-16; Eccl 10:8-9).

And abortion is evil. And barbaric.

Consider this:

  • Abimelech died by a stone, after slaying 70 men on a stone (Jdgs 9:18,53).
  • Moab was cursed by the man they hired to curse Israel (Num 24:17).
  • Haman died on the gallows he had built for Mordecai (Esth 7:10).
  • Ahab’s blood was licked by dogs in the place they licked Naboth’s (I Kgs 21:19).
  • Israel burned their children at Tophet, and God filled the place with their bodies (Jer 7:31-32).
  • Conspirators against Daniel were destroyed horribly by the lions they had planned for him (Dan 6:24).
  • The Jews crucified Jesus to, in their mind, save their religious careers, but the Romans later crucified them by the thousands (John 11:50).

Consider this concerning the use of a rolling stone. Jesus boldly warned the religious leaders of His day: “And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever, it shall fall, it will grind him to powder” (Matt 21:44).

Actions have consequences. For good and for evil.
