An active shooter opened fire at a Catholic school for young children in Minneapolis, Minnesota, yesterday, according to officials and news coverage.
The shooting occurred at Annunciation Catholic School, which teaches kindergartners through eighth-graders, while the students were in a morning Mass service. Two children aged 8 and 10 were killed where they sat in the pews, and 17 other people were injured before the gunman fatally shot himself.
I mentioned on yesterday's live radio program that this shooting had just happened.
A couple of hours later, it was the Democrat Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey who became the headline.
Be informed, not misled.
Democrat Gov. Tim Waltz (yes, that Tim Waltz) said in an X post, “I’ve been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and will continue to provide updates as we get more information, adding that state law enforcement agencies are on the scene. I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”
The Daily Caller reported that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted on X that her Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “is monitoring the horrific shooting” and communicating with “interagency partners.”
President Donald Trump also posted on Truth Social that the FBI is on the scene and that “the White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation.”
As grief gripped the school, then the parents, then the country and the world, Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey stepped to the podium and made a fool of himself.
The fool.
Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey scolded any Christian who is offering their “prayers” for the victims of the Annunciation Catholic School shooting on Wednesday.
Following the tragedy of a now-deceased suspect who killed two children, aged eight and ten, and injured 17 others after he opened fire inside the school's church, the mayor told people not to offer their “thoughts and prayers” to the victims and their families.
“Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school, and they were in a church,” Frey said during a press conference. “These are kids that should be learning with their friends, they should be playing on the playground, they should be able to go to school or church in peace without the fear or risk of violence, and their parents should have the same kind of assurance. These are the sort of basic assurances that every family should have every step of the day, no matter where they are in our country.”
Don't just say this is about thoughts and prayers?
I understand the mayor was calling for action. Probably gun confiscation. But why would he have the need to degrade prayer to Almighty God and demean those who do pray?
The Bible has strong words for such thinking. Psalm 14 says, "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD."
Thankfully, we still have many leaders who do value the power of prayer to Almighty God.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed during the press conference that 14 of the 17 injured are children, and two of those kids are in critical condition. The shooter, who is believed to be in his early 20s, took his own life with the firearm after the incident.
The children were attending a Mass service at the time of the shooting, he added.
“Our hearts are broken for the families who have lost their children,” O’Hara said. “For these young lives who are now fighting to recover, and for our entire community that has been so deeply traumatized by this senseless attack. We will stand together to protect our children, our schools, and our houses of worship.”
Takeaway
The hypocrite.
Frey signed an ordinance in April 2023, which made Minneapolis the only major city in the U.S. to allow mosques to broadcast the Islamic call to prayer five times a day, and yet tells Christians not to offer their prayers.
Local ABC TV reported "Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has signed an ordinance that allows mosques to broadcast the Adhan, or Islamic call to prayer, five times a day instead of the three or four times a day currently permitted by the city."
This move made Minneapolis the first major city in the nation to allow Adhan broadcasts year-round, five times a day.
The Mayor also led the Minneapolis City Council to unanimously pass an ordinance exempting the call to prayer from noise restrictions, allowing it to be made five times per day.
Clearly, this mayor does, in fact, believe in "prayer." Just not in Christian prayers.
