America's Future: Mass Immigration? Or Mass Deportation?

The midterm election cycle has confirmed that Democrats are committed to mass immigration and open borders whenever they regain the White House.

That, along with non-enforcement and a halt to deportations and interior immigration enforcement, will be their de facto standing immigration policy moving forward.

Where the right stands on immigration is much less clear. To its credit, the American right has never been as uniform or politically disciplined as the left, in part because it’s not motivated by revolutionary fervor.

Legal, organized immigration is a good thing — in fact, it's biblical.

Illegal immigration is destructive to a nation and not biblical.

Be informed, not misled.

John Daniel Davidson wrote yesterday:

The ongoing GOP civil war Donald Trump inaugurated a decade ago to a large extent hinges on this question of immigration. The pre-Trump Republican establishment would very much like to go back to how things were before Trump, when the bipartisan Washington consensus was that immigration should supply big business with cheap labor and Democrats with future voters. That’s one reason they’re so eager to attack and undermine Vice President J.D. Vance,[ and-or Rubio,] one of which is Trump’s likely successor.

Trump’s America First base will never accept a return to the pre-Trump status quo on immigration. But the right will need more than that base to keep Democrats out of power. While it’s true that the GOP establishment in Washington has no real constituency on immigration except the special interests that benefit from cheap foreign labor, it’s unclear whether Republican voters are ready to support a dramatically restrictionist immigration policy.

Former ICE Chief of Staff Jason Killmeyer succinctly captured the strategic state of play, saying we are either going to have mass immigration or mass deportations, depending on which party is in power.

Davidson goes on to build the case for controlled, legal immigration.

Since immigration is essentially a moral issue, we must ask ourselves...

Do you believe in borders? Of course you do.

Do you have locks on your doors? How about your car? Got a fence so your kids can play safely? Do you have passwords on your computers? How about your bank accounts? Do you protect your credit card numbers? Your Social Security number? How about your medical records? Do you think curbs, guardrails, and traffic lines are a good idea, or should people be able to drive anywhere and any way they want? How about security borders at the airport—necessary or optional?

The truth is, everyone believes in secure borders. In fact, life would be impossible without them. As long as human nature is what it is—bent toward evil—borders will be necessary.

What does the Bible say about national sovereignty and immigration?

The Bible is clear that God's plan includes borders.

Regressive evangelicals can be fooled just like anyone when it comes to what the Bible teaches about illegal immigration. To hear many evangelical leaders tell it, God is all for open borders, and anybody who thinks otherwise is a bad Christian.

But that’s not what we discover when we take a closer look at what the Bible actually says rather than what we want it to say. When Israel approached the Promised Land in its journey through the wilderness, Moses asked the kings of Edom and Moab for permission to pass through their territory on the way to Canaan and was denied - twice.

The king of Edom “would not listen” and the king of Moab “would not consent” (Judges 11:17). What did Moses do? Did he invade their land or sneak across their borders? No - the Bible says in Judges 11:18 he “went around the land of Moab and the land of Edom.” In other words, he honored their borders and would not enter their sovereign territory without their permission.

The Bible teaches us here and in many, many other places that borders around countries are God’s idea, not man’s, and must be respected. When we protect our sovereign borders from an invasion of illegal aliens who enter without our permission, we are simply following the template laid down by God himself in his Word.

There is nothing wrong and everything right about insisting that the people of other nations honor and respect our borders.

Thanks to President Trump, our borders are secure. Our land has national borders and is open to legal immigrants who apply for permission to come to the United States.

Takeaway

Remember:

Acts 17:6 says, "From one man He made every nation of men, to inhabit the whole earth and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands."

The midterm election cycle has confirmed that Democrats are committed to mass immigration and open borders whenever they might regain the White House.
