Family and the Slippery Slope

The New York Post headline reads, "California city makes history allowing throuples, foursomes to legally register as partners."

The Post continues, "Throuples, foursomes and other multi-partner relationships can now register as domestic partners in a Los Angeles County city after its city council unanimously approved new legal protections for polyamorous couples."

"West Hollywood passed the ordinance Tuesday after it was introduced by Mayor John Heilman."

"The measure allows people in relationships involving multiple partners to officially register with the city, granting them certain rights, including hospital visitation and additional tenant protections."

This causes me to remember when the Seattle Times and other news outlets mocked me and the others working to defeat the so-called "same sex marriage" bill when we called it a "slippery slope."

Well, here we are.

Be informed, not misled.

The Post says, "Supporters say the ordinance marks an important step toward addressing challenges faced by adults who maintain romantic or other committed relationships with multiple people."

And continues, "These barriers, they say, often arise in housing, healthcare, education and other services, where existing policies largely cater to two-person partnerships or traditional family households."

So the goal is to redefine "family" as different from, and in conflict with, God's definition of "family."

The Los Angeles Times says, "This law is just the beginning,” said Christina Fialho, an attorney and founder of bisexual media representation advocacy group Rewrite the BiLine, who first brought the idea of polyamory protections to West Hollywood Councilmember Chelsea Lee Byers in early 2025. “I think it makes it possible for people to dream about a future they once thought was out of reach.”

Per the ordinance, a group of three or more people can file a statement with the city clerk to create an official record of their relationship. They must meet certain basic requirements, such as that the relationship is consensual and they are not related by blood.

Notably, people living outside the city’s limits can register their union.

Fialho said the availability of the registry to people outside West Hollywood could help others to legitimize their relationships on paper for school pickups, hospital visits and other situations even if they don’t live in cities that specifically afford rights to polyamorous partners and whose hospitals and other institutions aren’t required to grant these rights.

Fialho herself lives just on the outskirts of West Hollywood, and she said that — as a bisexual woman who has been in various relationship structures — the registry option helps her “feel protected.”

Megan Katz, a librarian in West Hollywood who supported the registry and other antidiscrimination protections, requested a change in the new ordinance at Tuesday’s meeting.

She says, "That does not describe how I practice polyamory at all," then going into a detailed account of her multiple relationships.

May God help us.

Thank you, Townhall and Amy Curtis.

The socialist Left has long targeted the nuclear family for destruction. They hate it for a variety of reasons: because they have deep-seated mommy or daddy issues, because they're anti-social loons who can't form healthy relationships, because they're miserable and want everyone else to be, too. But the main reason the Left hates the nuclear family is because it's the main obstacle to their socialist goals. Nuclear families often are working class or middle class and do not need to rely on the government for aid.

To the socialist, that's intolerable and unacceptable. They need a world with two classes — the very rich (comprised of them and their political allies), and the extremely poor (the rest of us) — in order to enact, enforce, and maintain their socialist agenda. History has already shown us that the socialists pit family members against one another; children and parents routinely ratted one another out in Mao's China, for example.

What socialists cannot do is come out and propose legislation that makes the nuclear family structure illegal. It would be electoral suicide, and they know it. So what they do instead is chip away at the foundations.

What Mao did, and indoctrinated his supporters into doing, is echoed today in the Left's push to criticize, condemn, and ostracize your conservative family members. They tell you to cut off those relationships, skip Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas visits, and isolate yourself.

Curtis says, "They also target children. Using the 'trans' activism as a guide, they encourage children (who are often abused, or autistic, or gay/lesbian) to hide their 'trans identity' from their parents and encourage a 'chosen' family instead. That's a theme that pops up frequently in television and movies, too: the "chosen family."

Another way they do this is by allowing legal recognition of relationships of more than two people, which is exactly what West Hollywood is doing.

These are the first steps to once again attempting to redefine God's order for family- the cornerstone of society.

They don't think this is a win. They think this is the next necessary step in destroying the family. Rendering it meaningless is just as effective a way to outlaw it as actually passing legislation, but without the legal and political blowback

Curtiss concludes:

"And, as always, the consequences of this won't just impact the family and society; it will harm the Left's agenda, too. USA Today reported back in June that support for gay marriage is on the decline. That's in part because the critics of gay marriage warned that it would lead to a slippery slope that has seen the push for transgender ideology and even an acceptance of "minor attracted individuals." Whether you agree with them or not, public perception is tying one to the other and responding with declining support.

Takeaway

From the beginning of Creation, the Bible presents the family not as a human invention, but as a foundational, divine institution ordained by God. In the opening chapters of Genesis, God intentionally forms humanity as male and female, establishing a purposeful design meant to bring harmony, mutual complement, and cooperative stewardship to the earth.

Biblical marriage predates all other forms of legal relationships, including marriage between one man and one woman.

Scripture records that God brought the first man and woman together, instituting the covenant of marriage as a lifelong, exclusive union between one man and one woman. Jesus reaffirmed this blueprint in the Gospels, quoting Genesis to show that a man leaves his parents, joins his wife, and the two become one flesh, concluding that what God has joined together must not be separated.

Within this union, God gave the command to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth. Children are viewed as a natural fruit of this physical and relational bond—brought into the world to be raised, nurtured, and instructed by a mother and father working in unity.

This structure also carries deep theological meaning: The Bible teaches that the faithful, sacrificial love between a husband and wife, alongside the guidance of children, mirrors the relationship between Christ and His church.

Far from a cultural construct subject to changing trends, this traditional framework is seen in biblical teaching as the primary training ground for character, generational faith transfer, and societal stability. Living within this design brings genuine flourishing, cultural order, and a direct reflection of  God's infinite wisdom.
