New Live Newsfeeds on Faith and Freedom Website

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Next week I plan to take a couple of days out of my office and away from meetings to spend with my wife and some family members. And to spend some alone time to "reset" and plan for the work that must be done over the next 90 days.

The work of our office will continue as usual, including the work of creating voter and educational materials.

I do not plan to publish the daily blog this coming Monday through Friday, however our office will continue to moderate your comments on existing blogs. I will resume on Monday, August 2. Thank you to the thousands of our friends for your encouragement and support and input.

Two Things:

First, be sure to participate in our new
"Patty Murray" poll. The poll is live and dynamic, continually changing, so you can track the votes.

I personally feel it is very helpful for our readers to know how others of like mind and beliefs are feeling about matters as important as the upcoming elections.

Secondly, our home page,
faithandfreedom.us, now carries live news feeds. You may sign on any time and see and hear the latest cultural news.

You will find the following live 24/7 news feeds:

*Live Video Feed From CBN NEWS
*Live Headlines Feed From CNS NEWS
*Live Headlines Feed From ONE NEWS NOW
*Live Headlines Feed From The Washington Times
*Live Poll---Currently, the "Patty Murray " poll

These four news sources carry most, not all, but most of the national news stories that are of interest to people who care about the culture.

We monitor daily the local Washington State news and bring that to you as it develops.

This is another step in our efforts to Inform, Inspire and Involve people in one of the most culturally defining times in recent history.

I would encourage you to consider bringing friends and family members along with what is happening in our world and community by pointing them to the home page of Faith and Freedom. And by asking them to subscribe to our daily blog commentary.

Many are aware that things are not going well in our country, but may not know why, or have convictions as to the solutions.

T.S. Elliot once said, "We know too much, and are convinced of too little."

Be Informed. Be Convinced. Be Active. See Victory.

"Mom In Tennis Shoes"

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
If you live in Washington State or Washington DC, you likely know who she is.

Senator Patty Murray has become the 4th most powerful person in the US Senate, while telling the folks back home she's just a "mom in tennis shoes."

She, in her rise to power, has been very instrumental in facilitating the far left, socialist agenda of President Obama and the left wing tendencies of Governor Gregoire.

Therein is her problem.

People back home are saying "enough".

A recent Rasmussen poll shows both Dino Rossi and Clint Didier, both running in the primary for the opportunity to run against her in November, lead Patty Murray. Rasmussen found either could beat her at the time he took the poll.

A new television ad---
KOMO 4 calls it an "attack ad, a sniper attack," poor choice of words in light of recent shootings, is running throughout the Seattle area and elsewhere.

When the
ad was first aired, Murray immediately blamed Rossi for it.

Rossi didn't do it. Neither did Didier. American Action Network did it.

The ad points out that the "mom in tennis shoes" has soiled her shoes by stepping on a lot of people in her rise to power, and now many Washingtonians are walking away from her, looking for someone else who will better represent their views and needs.

I have
linked the ad---you must see it.

Last month Faith and Freedom ran a poll among our readers and supporters asking who you favor to run against Patty Murray.

When we took down the poll, Clint Didier had 46%, Dino Rossi had 39% and Paul Akers had 14%.
Today we have put up a
new poll which includes only the names of Didier, Rossi and Akers.

Please participate. Here's why. It is helpful for people to see what others of like mind and beliefs are thinking as we express our preference in the primary, preparing for our best effort in the general election in November.

Think about this wisdom from the past:

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero, 55 BC.

Be Vigilant. Be Prayerful. Be Active. Be Blessed. Be Free.

God bless you.

Good Republican---Bad Republican

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Senator Lindsay Graham, R-SC, was the lone Republican on the Judiciary Panel who voted in favor of confirming Elena Kagan to the US Supreme Court. As the vote was taken yesterday afternoon, Graham said he thought President Obama "chose wisely" in making his nomination.

Wisely? It is wisdom only in that she will serve long after President Obama is out of office and will carry his extreme secular socialist agenda forward. Why would her nomination be "wise" to a Republican when she represents everything Republicans say they oppose?

Bad Republican.

This is an example of why we must be as well informed as possible regarding the candidates. Affiliation with a particular political party does not always ensure a good vote.

The members of the US Supreme Court make decisions that impacts every person in America.

Senator Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama, and senior Republican on the Panel saw a very different Elena Kagan than Graham had seen and cast a very different vote. In voting "no," he made it very clear why he voted "no".

Good Republican.

Although USA Today inserted their own disclaimer, they carried Session's comments as an editorial late yesterday afternoon.

The following are Senator Session's comments as he voted "no":
SOURCE USA TODAY.

By Jeff Sessions
After carefully reviewing Elena Kagan's record and testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, I must oppose her nomination.

OUR VIEW:
Kagan deserves bipartisan backing, but won't get it

The American people want judges who impartially follow the text of the Constitution. They reject judges who use their power to impose their own political views — liberal or conservative — on the nation.

Throughout her career, Ms. Kagan has placed her politics above the law.

She has never been a judge, never tried a case before a jury and has practiced law for only three years. She is the least experienced nominee in the last half-century.

Her self-identified judicial heroes are among the most activist judges to ever serve. She even worked to confirm ACLU General Counsel Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the most activist judge now on the Supreme Court.

As a senior adviser to President Clinton, she was instrumental in efforts to restrict private gun rights and to stop legislation to limit "partial-birth" abortions.

As dean of Harvard Law School, Ms. Kagan kicked the military out of the campus recruitment office in violation of the federal law's equal access requirement. Because of her personal opposition to the "don't ask, don't tell" statute, she demeaned and punished the military as our troops were fighting and dying in two wars overseas.

Later, as solicitor general, Ms. Kagan gravely jeopardized the same statute when she allowed a severely flawed circuit court ruling to stand without challenge, despite her sworn duty to defend the law.

Unfortunately, her testimony at the Senate hearing failed to address these concerns, and was more like White House spin than a clear and honest response to questions.

President Obama himself has said that he looks for judges who will impose "their broader vision of what America should be." That is what he thinks he has in Ms. Kagan: someone who shares his big-government vision for the country, and who is willing to advance it from the bench.

In fact, when asked at the hearing, Ms. Kagan was unable to identify any constitutional limits on the government's power to control people's economic decisions.

Americans who are deeply troubled by Washington's growing disregard for the Constitution should also be troubled by this nomination. No senator should vote to confirm an individual to any court who lacks fidelity to the law.

Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama is the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Freedom of Religion or Freedom of Worship? Obama Shifts His Words

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Thank you for your kind and generous responses to this ministry. We are humbled.
___________

When President Obama spoke in Cairo some months ago, his language was strong on the subject and he used the term "religious freedom."

Since that time he has consistently used a slightly different phrase when talking about the same subject. He is now using the term, "freedom of worship."

At first I thought I was overly concerned and didn't mention it in any of these blogs.

However, I recently became aware that there are a number of other more qualified observers who are also concerned about this shift in words. They believe it could represent a shift in his policy plans.

In fact the
Catholic Online published an article last Friday expressing concern about this very thing. They also quoted others who follow such things and are also expressing concern.

They are urging members of their churches to be vigilant, notice the shift in words and be aware that, "These small changes can be used to change our perception of rights and freedoms."

Following the Cairo speech, President Obama dropped the term freedom of religion and began using, exclusively, freedom of worship. He first used the phrase, "freedom of worship," at the memorial for the Fort Hood victims. From that point he has exclusively substituted "freedom of worship" for "freedom of religion."

Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton also began using the same term at the same time.

Ashley Samelson is quoted in this article as saying this shift in linguistics is troubling. "The reason," she says, "is simple. Any person of faith knows that religious exercise is about a lot more than freedom of worship."

Indeed. Religious freedom is about preaching, teaching, evangelizing, kosher foods and a whole list of acts related to one's expression of religious freedom, that would not be protected under "freedom of worship."

Christianity Today suggests that President Obama is attempting to present a "softer" message to the Muslim world, hoping to build bridges with his words.

The Catholics make the point that language matters when it comes to defining freedoms and limits. A shift from freedom of religion to freedom of worship moves the dialog from the world stage into the confines of a church, a temple, synagogue, etc.

And such limitations, they say, could unleash an unbridled imitative that we have only experienced in a mild way through actions directed at removing roadside crosses, wearing religious T-shirts and pro-life pins as well as various kinds of evangelization outreach.

It could also negatively impact our right to raise our kids in our faith, the right to religious education, literature, the right to raise funds for church related ministries and activities and the right to express our religious beliefs in the normal discourse of living our life.

Some may think we are making too much of this, however, I don't think so and neither does human rights lawyer Nina Shea, a Senior Scholar at Hudson Institute.

She says, "I'm very fearful that by building bridges, we're actually stepping away from this fundamental principle of religious freedom. It is so critical for Western, especially American, leaders to articulate strong defense for religious freedom and explain what that means and how it undergrids our entire civilization."

Mark Twain was fond of saying, "The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a larger matter---it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning."

What seems like a little shift in language can become a tipping point for our religious freedom.

Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Free.

God bless you.

NARAL Takes on Faith and Freedom

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
NARAL Pro-Choice Washington published an urgent message to all their constituents this past Friday saying they must defeat Faith and Freedom.

The message from Lauren Simonds, executive director, began:

Dear ..., make a contribution to NARAL Pro-Choice Washington and turn
out the pro-choice vote.

I just read some alarming news about anti-choice conservatives in our state, and I had to let you know right away. The Wall Street Journal reports:

In Bellevue, Wash., the Faith and Freedom Network plans to hire activists for about $10 an hour next month to promote statewide candidates with Judeo-Christian values for the fall elections, says Gary Randall, the group's president. Recruits will knock on doors and will be dispatched in large groups, hoping to draw media attention, he says.

"That's right," Simonds says, "the Faith and Freedom Network, a right-wing, anti-choice organization is mobilizing its activists to turn out the vote in support of anti-choice, anti-woman candidates."

We are not supporting any "anti-woman" candidates. I don't know any "anti-woman" candidates. As you well know, we support people who are pro-life and pro-marriage and pro-family. And yes, fiscally conservative.

The email says, "PROTECT & ELECT. Don't let a right wing, anti-choice organization
call the shots this election. Make a contribution to NARAL..."

They will raise tens of thousands of dollars as a result of this one email to help them
defeat and undermine our efforts.

Will you stand with us against this Advocate For Evil ?

Will you help us educate voters so they can make informed decisions as they vote?

I don't think any of us believe this is a time to stand by in silence. Or have lengthy discussions as to whether or not Christians should be involved.

Please help us by making a donation to Faith and Freedom, now.

Please do not be silent or inactive. Anything you can do to help is deeply appreciated.

We have stood against the rage of the press and others as we have advocated for natural marriage, family and traditional Judeo-Christian values. You will recall the fury of opposition to R-71.

We are not fearful, but know full well the press will come along side NARAL and others who oppose those who seek to kill the unborn. Or to redefine marriage and family. The opposition
will not be restrained.

I am willing to stand alone against this "advocate for evil" but we cannot prevail alone. We can only prevail with your support. Together, we can impact the upcoming elections and the future.

There is a great opportunity to see new leadership elected to the legislature this election. NARAL and others like them recognize the opportunity we have before us. They seek to destroy our efforts.

I sincerely hope and pray we recognize that opportunity.

Will you please
make a tax deductible donation now? It will be used entirely to educate and inform voters.

You can also send a check to:

Faith and Freedom Foundation
Box 399
Bellevue, WA 98009

The Wall Street Journal was correct, except that our campaign they referenced will be launched after the primary and will involve youth from various churches in selected areas. I did not want to announce this until next month, simply because there are those who work to undermine any of our efforts, particularly when they know in advance. I know you understand.

Details on this aspect of our efforts will be forthcoming after the primary election. Specific candidates and locations will be announced.

NARAL says, "We cannot afford to lose our pro-choice majority in the legislature."

Indeed they can't. They are deeply linked to Planned Parenthood, the leader in the abortion industry. To lose their majority could mean the loss of millions of dollars that flow to Planned Parenthood each year from lawmakers for so-called "health care".

We likely cannot match the money NARAL and others will raise and spend to discredit and undermine our efforts and promote their pro-death agenda, however we can make our best stand and will do so. Your
financial support will determine how strong our stand can be.

Thank you for reading our words and hearing our heart. And thank you for standing with us.

Be Vigilant. Be Vocal. Be Active. Be Prayerful. Be Blessed. Be Free.

Assault on Children and Family Continues in Public Education

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
This time it's in Montana.

The Helena school district is proposing, and it appears the school board has the votes to approve, a new comprehensive sex-ed curriculum that will teach children about same-sex intercourse.

Kindergartners will learn proper names of sexual body parts, first graders will be taught that sexual relations can happen between two men and two women and fifth graders will be taught the various ways people can have intercourse.

Having been in contact with families in Helena who read Faith and Freedom's publications and are involved in this matter, I can tell you there has been an honest attempt to persuade the school board to withdraw this plan. It does not appear that is going to happen. Things are now boiling over in the area.

The superintendent and supporting board members are doing what they always do in these cases. They try to appease and mislead parents who oppose their actions.

They are telling the parents to calm down, that if they do not agree with the new curriculum they can simply "opt-out" their child.

The problem, as
Jeff Laszloffy, president of Montana Family Foundation points out, is that the proposed sex-ed program is both systemic and comprehensive. It will be infused into every part of the curriculum from K through 12.

Those who strongly oppose this assault say the school wants to indoctrinate rather than educate.
Indeed they do.

President Obama's so-called "Safe School" Czar, Kevin Jennings, and others like him, have worked tirelessly for more than two decades to bring a radical homosexual agenda to this place in your child's classroom.

Jennings, a homosexual activist, founded the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) back in 1990 and continued to lead the organization until shortly before Obama appointed him "Safe School Czar." GLSEN is credited with most of the success in advancing the homosexual agenda in public education.

Among the many occasions where Jennings has stood against family values and traditional beliefs, the one he himself has written about regarding his attitude toward God is most stunning.

He
has said that a deep seated hatred of God and religious believers began when he fully embraced the homosexual lifestyle and bid God farewell with these words: "Screw you, buddy."

He is our President's choice to keep your school "safe".

This is why we work hard to advance Judeo-Christian values and principles in our culture and work to help elect leaders who will support and honor those values.

Thank you for
your financial support which allows us to continue in this battle.

Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Blessed.

Obama's Fool's Gold

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Remember when so-called pro-life Congressman Bart Stupak made his stand for life, was praised by many, then caved in to President Obama and led 5 other Democrats, including Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper from Pennsylvania, to drop their noble stand for life and vote for, ensuring passage, of Obamacare.

Why? Because the President promised them there would be no taxpayer funded abortions. Even promising to sign an executive order to that effect. An executive order that seemed to be of no concern to abortion leader Planned Parenthood.

Now we know what most of us knew then. Sometimes the truth escapes the President.

That was then, this is now.

On June 28, the federal government approved rules governing $160 million in federal tax money for a "high risk" insurance program that will---cover just about any abortion before the 24th week of pregnancy.

And this is happening in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Dahlkemper's home state.

The Washington Times published a column which covers the matter fairly well. Please read the link for details.

The National Right to Life Committee has produced a study that absolutely proves that tax payer money will pay for abortions. And they say it isn't through a "loop hole" in Obamacare, "It's a canyon you can fly O Force One through."

In that the program is completely funded by federal monies, not state monies, the federal government has avoided the state law (3215c) making state law not applicable.

Clever.

The Times calls Obama's promise "fools gold."

Remember when Rev. Wright said he felt he had been thrown under the bus?

If Rep. Dahlkemper looks up this fall, she too, may see the under side of the "bus".

The Times points out that many of her future constituents won't even be born now, as a result of this program. And concludes, "That's a pretty dark legacy for a congressional freshman who campaigned as a pro-lifer."

It is also a dark legacy that we Americans elected this kind of leadership.

However, we cannot imagine the darkness, should we not make major changes in the upcoming elections.

God help us.

NBC Changes The Rules to Allow Homosexual 'Today Show' Wedding

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Thank you for your great response to reactivating the Faith and Freedom PAC. It's reactivated.
_______________

Homosexual activists have demanded that NBC 's " Today Show"
change its rules for the show's annual wedding contest.

NBC has changed the rules and extended their deadline for application to accommodate homosexual demands.

Although NBC received voice mails and email protesting its decision to include homosexual "marriage" in the show's annual on-air wedding contest, they issued a statement that said the show considers relations with the gay and lesbian community very important. Indicating, apparently, that the show considers its relations with the Christian community, that spoke loudly on the issue, not so important.

"Moving forward," NBC said, "we ensure that our future wedding contests will be inclusive to all couples."

I wonder if they will discriminate against polygamist "weddings" that want to enter their contest?

Homosexual activist Jarrett Barrios, with GLADD, credits his organization with initiating the thousands of calls that caused NBC to change their rules. He is "thrilled" and says that now the Today Show, "recognizes what most fair minded Americans have already concluded---a wedding celebrates love and commitment, whether the spouses are straight or gay."

Well, perhaps Mr. Barrios is missing the true definition of "fair minded". A majority of Americans do not support homosexual marriage. And they probably don't care whether Mr. Barrios thinks they are fair minded or not. They believe in the traditional values that made this country great and strong----including natural marriage, one man-one woman, to be the desired norm and policy.

These "unfair-minded" people are also getting tired of television.

Last week Americans avoided television in record levels.
Associated Press reports that CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX together, had the smallest number of prime time viewers in the 20 years Nielson Company has been reporting.

Their explanation? Barbecues and fireworks. They say families are distracted by barbecues and fireworks.

Is this the first year Americans have done fireworks and barbecues?

Something else is in play. Americans are fed up with the assault on marriage, family and traditional values by television and the entertainment industry in general.

American Idol became a soap box for Ellen this past year to make a few "cute" comments about homosexuality and they are loosing viewers. The program GLEE is a lecture about an innocent homosexual kid with an old white father who is "out of touch," at least one lesbian movie is scheduled out this summer and a host of other "lectures under the guise of entertainment" are out or in the works.

So-called "unfair-minded" people are sick of it. And they are avoiding it.

There is a better day a 'comin.

Be Strong. Be Faithful. Be Wise. Be Grateful. Be Blessed.

Thanks for
your financial support.

Open Letter to Rev Richard K Gibson of Lynnwood

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
The Seattle Gay Pride Parade came and went this year, with the homosexual flag flying over the Space Needle, homosexuals acting out in front of onlookers in downtown Seattle and the press doing their part to make the event all it could be.

However, some supporters of the homosexual agenda did not feel The Seattle Times did enough, or at least didn't get it right.

I didn't plan to even mention the gay parade because the important people who read this blog and support our efforts already know what it is and what it is about.

Perversion.

Reverend Richard K. Gibson, of Lynnwood, didn't feel
The Seattle Times got it quite right in their reporting.

He and Mrs. Gibson sent a comment to the Times editor in which they said, "The outlandish people pictured were part of the fun, but their photos do not support the serious nature of the day---an opportunity for 'normal' people to express their pride and support for one another."

Normal people? Is that to suggest that those pictured are "not normal?" We are told to believe homosexual behavior with all its trappings and deviance is already "normal".

The Gibsons then define "normal," and asked The Times to print pictures of the, "bankers, lawyers, teachers, police and fire personnel and ordinary housewives who were part of the Sunday gay pride parade."

I have written the following open letter to Reverend Gibson:

July 13, 2010

Dear Rev. Gibson

Although to my knowledge we have never met, please know that I respect you as a person and respect the leadership and authority given you within and without the Presbyterian Church. I also respect your right to an opinion regarding homosexual behavior and Scriptural teaching.

However, I profoundly disagree with the position you expressed in your recent comment to the editor of The Seattle Times. I further disagree with similar positions held by "The Welcoming Church Movement" and other similar organizations that are advancing the idea that "Homosexuality Is Compatible With Christian Teaching" (WOW 2000, etc.).

While I agree that those practicing homosexual behavior should not be condemned, I disagree that the mission of the church is to demonstrate inclusiveness and affirmation that contradicts clear biblical teaching on the matter of homosexual behavior, with some even advocating homosexual leadership and ordination in the church.

Since Scripture clearly condemns the practice of homosexual relations and there is no scientific evidence that supports the notion that homosexuality is genetic, would it not be better, though more challenging and perhaps controversial, to condemn the behavior as learned or chosen and offer inclusiveness to the Scriptural message of deliverance, redemption and restoration, rather than affirming a deviant lifestyle, seeking ways to normalize it? Should we advance the idea that those who need to be led, become church leaders?

If homosexual behavior is celebrated and affirmed as normal, natural and consistent with Scriptural teaching and accepted social norms, why then is it necessary to "normalize it" with pictures of "more normal" people?

The pictures often associated with the gay pride parades do in fact correctly represent the rebellion associated with this chosen lifestyle.

More than five thousand years of human history shows that every successful civilization and every major religion has condemned homosexual behavior. While some religions teach stoning those who practice same-sex relations, New Testament Christianity is the one religion that provides forgiveness, deliverance, restoration and redemption to those victimized by it.

Should we, in our haste to show ourselves "inclusive and tolerant" hide the true power of the Gospel under a bushel, denying those in need the wonderful experience of the "abundant life" Christ promised?

I think not.

A Faith and Freedom PAC Alert

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
paid for by the faith and freedom political action committee

It is being called the most important election in recent history. In less than 4 months, we will make decisions in our choice of leadership, that will impact our culture and our lives for decades to come.

We will choose leaders who will embrace conservative, traditional, godly values or destructive secular, humanistic ideas.

This is our time to influence the course of human events.

Not only will we be impacted by these elections, but our children and grandchildren will be as well.

We are activating the Faith and Freedom Political Action Committee today in order to actively advocate and solicit votes for those specific candidates who will support traditional, family values, rather than the secular socialism that is leading our country and our culture toward destruction.

We have not used the PAC since it was used exclusively for Referendum 71. Now we are directing all donations toward electing candidates who will support our shared values; the values and principles upon which this country and our communities have been built. The values you believe in.

To reactivate the PAC, according to state regulations, we must have a minimum of 10 people, who are registered Washington voters, give a minimum of $10 each. However, we are asking everyone to donate something for this initial launch.

With the significant audience of this web site, several thousand people could easily send in a $10 or $20 or even $100 donation to the PAC.

Hundreds of thousands of people read our blogs directly and through forwarding, however, it is a committed group of supporters who allow it all to happen.

Most of you who regularly support Faith and Freedom contribute to the Foundation. Without that support we could not continue. The Foundation produces educational material, through the blogs and other materials and events.

We are not asking you to change your support, rather to make this one initial donation to help activate the PAC.

Would you help us today, so we can get started on the work that is just ahead?

You can donate here online.

Or you can mail a check to:

Faith and Freedom PAC
Box 65
Olympia, WA 98507-0065

Please note the address. The PAC is operated independently and has its own address.

Thank you for standing with us in these critical times.

The Patriotism Gap: Secular Liberals Love America Less

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Marriage Alert: Late yesterday afternoon a federal district court in Boston ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), saying it is unconstitutional. I have linked the story.

____________

A poll by
USA Today/Gallup has found that 32% of Americans describe themselves as "extremely patriotic," up from 19% in 1999.

Our own
poll of Faith and Freedom readers shows 76% feel they are more patriotic than they were 10 years ago.

However, the gap between the secular left and the American public in general is widening---reflecting two very different views of America.

The Gallup poll shows that 42% of Democrats are satisfied with the direction the country is heading, while only 7% of Republicans agree.

Call it partisan or political if you must, but this gap is neither. It cuts to the core, fundamental beliefs of many of the people of this nation.

The "Patriotism Gap" represents, I believe, the profound disagreement with the direction President Obama is taking this country. I believe Americans would hold their present disagreement with any President, regardless of Party affiliation, who would try, as President Obama is doing, to fundamentally "transform" this nation.

A
Washington Times editorial on the subject says, "The patriotism issue broadly parallels the battle lines of the culture war. Those brought up in an educational system in which the United States is portrayed negatively---as the country of slavery and segregation, of unjust wars, environmental pollution, evil capitalism and all manner of oppression---have no particular reason to be patriotic. To these people, Michelle Obama's position rang true when she said in February 2008, that, "for the first time in[her] adult lifetime", she was "really proud of [her] country." There was no reason to be proud of America before the Obama ascendancy. Likewise, candidate Obama's promise to "fundamentally transform" the United States was an exciting message to those who despised America as a morally bankrupt, internationally despised country with a despicable history."

Take a moment. Think back to the sermons we heard in 2008 from Rev. Wright about his view of America and how he believed God should D_ _ _ America, rather than bless it. And much more.

Remember that the Obamas' sat under his ministry for 20 years---20 years, with no sense of discomfort over those kinds of sermons.

Forget the denials and distancing by the Obamas when it appeared their association with Wright was going to hurt their political ambitions, look simply at what this man is doing to America since elected. Does his actions and policies not reflect the same disdain for this country?

The editorial continues: "To those who hold a competing image of the United States---as a shining city on a hill, as the fount of freedom, as a country of faith, hope and charity, as a product of a divine plan, as defender of democracy and the last best hope of mankind---this vision needs no fundamental transformation."

The increase in patriotism is, at least in part, a response to the continuing assault on these American ideals. Increased patriotism is in defense of what America has been, what it now represents and all it can be.

While most all nations were born of ancient boundaries and blood lines, America was conceived in liberty---based on a promise.

A bright future for America is not based on Barack Obama's promise to fundamentally transform or "remake" it.

America's intended destiny is based on the fact that freedom and rights come from God and His authority and that government is created to protect those God given freedoms and rights. And government is fully accountable to the people.

An exceptional belief created an exceptional nation.

May God help us as we seek to restore this gift called America.

Be Discerning. Be Vigilant. Believe in a future under God.

President Obama's Words and Deeds on Abortion

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Candidate Obama and now President Obama has often said he wants to work to "reduce" the number of abortions.

Whether this is a "wink-wink" for his far left secularist friends and supporters or is simply a lie, it matters not, because his words and his actions do not match---not even close.

The selection of formerly pro-life, now aggressively pro-abortion, Joe Biden as his running mate marked the beginning of Barack Obama's assault on life as President of the United States of America.

LIFENEWS has chronicled his decisions and appointments that directly expand the abortion industry's agenda and marketing plan, while rewarding them for their support.

He is working tirelessly to expand abortions in America, in Kenya and around the world. He has been praised for his advocacy of abortion internationally.

Please take a moment and read the list. It will not surprise you, however, it will inform you and give you facts that hopefully will encourage you to continue to resist the moral free fall that America is experiencing today.

Can God bless a nation that is committed to killing unborn babies for the sake of birth control? And calling it "choice" and a woman's right?"

God forgive us. Forgive our silence on these moral and eternal matters. Forgive us for suggesting that the church should not be involved in speaking truth to the culture. Deliver us from the evil of apathy and our fear of rejection by those who stand against the eternal Judeo-Christian principles and values.

Be Prayerful. Be Vigilant. Do Not Be Silent. Be Free.

NASA's New Mission "Deeply Flawed"

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden says that President Obama has asked him to make "dominantly Muslim nations feel good."

NASA's head guy says the President has told him that his "foremost" mission at NASA is to find a way to, "reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good" about their accomplishments in math and science.

Bolden told Al Jazeera TV, "The United States is not going to travel beyond low-Earth orbit on its own."

Michael Griffin idea that , former NASA Administrator under President George W. Bush, says Obama'sNASA's priority should be outreach to Muslim countries is "deeply flawed."

He said, "Muslim nation cooperation is not vital for US advancements in space exploration."

"There is no technology they have that we need," he said.

I am certain Griffin reflects the feelings of most of the people at NASA who have built the most advanced and successful space exploration organization in history.

Astronaut Jim Irwin, who flew in Apollo 15 and walked on the moon, was a personal friend of mine. I assure you he did not view NASA as a diplomatic outreach to Muslim nations. I'm sure many others share his pride and patriotism.

While our President is "remaking" America, bankrupting coming generations of young Americans, suing the citizens of Arizona and pushing us off the precipice of socialism, he has now decided to dismantle NASA.

Earlier, he had redirected NASA toward his global warming agenda and is now wanting to use it as a diplomatic tool to make Muslims feel good.

When you think you've seen it all, as they say ... you haven't.

As President Obama's support has fallen to record low numbers, one thing has struck me. How can a good number of Americans still be "undecided" or "do not know" how they feel about his presidency so far.

The far left, who hates or strongly dislikes America as we know it, likes him. I get that.

We who believe America is an exceptional nation, with a rich history and wonderful future and believe in the principles that made this the greatest nation on Earth, don't like his presidency. I get that, too.

But how can anyone, knowing what we all now know, be "undecided"?

You tell me.

The greatest philosophical battle in our national history is building toward a climax. The very heart and soul of our country is the proverbial "line in the sand " over the next 2 elections.

Our country is deeply divided over our future and what we will become. This is not a time to be silent nor uninformed.

And please don't tell me this is not a spiritual and moral matter. That it is somehow political or partisan.

It's time for people of faith to get real, clear their head, inform their mind, overcome any intimidation and move prayerfully to action.

God help us.

Be Prayerful. Be Vigilant. Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Active. Be Blessed.

Controversy at Christian Music Fest

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
"Lifest," an annual Christian festival, which draws tens of thousands of people, opens tomorrow in Oshkosh, Wis. with a great deal of controversy.

At the heart of the problem is scheduled speaker Jim Wallis. He claims to be an evangelical, but promotes a far left social agenda that many find both offensive and unbiblical.

Q90 FM, a Christian radio station, has pulled out and will not be supporting the festival this year. Their issued statement says, "After researching extensively the words and published positions of Jim Wallis and his organization, Sojourners Magazine, and seeking fervently the guidance of the Holy Spirit in prayer, we believe the social justice message and agenda they promote is a seed of secular humanism, seeking an unholy alliance between Church and Government."

Lifest founder, Bob Lenz, has told local pastors and organizations who are objecting to Wallis that he will not remove Wallis from the program.

Crosstalk radio host, Ingrid Schlueter, said Lifest is presenting Wallis as "a creditable Christian leader" and said the youth attending the event are in "spiritual peril."

She said youth will be, "sitting under the tutelage of a religious and political radical who is...hostile to the biblical Gospel."

Mary Danielson of Calvary Chapel in Appleton said Wallis claims to be an evangelical pastor, but is merely using Scripture to "justify his radicalism."

She said, "He does not hold to the central tenants of biblical Christianity, but reads a brand of social justice into the Bible."

I agree.

Wallis is now doing what he always does when called on his radicalism, he is claiming to be like all other evangelicals. This is exactly what President Obama has done. He has claimed to be a "Christian" but has denied the very teachings of Jesus by saying that he believes there are many ways to God---affirming that Jesus is not the only way.

This, of course, stands in direct contradiction to what Jesus Himself taught. He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6.

It would be no surprise to you that Wallis serves as an advisor to President Obama.

Wallis and others are rebranding the Gospel. It is an insidious problem in the Christian church in America. It is being advanced under the banners of "social justice" and the Emerging "or "Emergent" church.

I am working on a blog that addresses this specific problem. I will be publishing it soon.

The controversy in Wisconsin is a microcosm of a much larger controversy that is indeed putting many in peril of being terribly misled.

Be Vigilant. Be Very Vigilant.

God bless you.

Independence Day

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Faith and Freedom's latest poll: Are you more patriotic now than you were 10 years ago? Click here to vote.

This Sunday we will celebrate Independence Day---the 4th of July.

Leo Strauss wrote that America became the only country in history founded, "in explicit opposition to Machiavellian principles"---which simply means the Founders and citizens of the colonies rejected the crass, imposing power politics of the King of England.

For 234 years, their beliefs and understanding of basic natural principles has served to allow America to become the greatest nation in the history of the world.

Exceptional.

The American concept was essentially founded on three principles or core beliefs.

1. "...all men are created equal"

The Founders knew we were not all literally equal, each is born with different capabilities and attributes---to different stations in life. We are, however, created equal in the sense that all men and women have the same "natural" rights, granted to them by God.

Our freedom and independence is first and foremost predicated on the recognition of God and His existence.

2. "...endowed by their creator"

They not only acknowledged God, they recognized Him as Creator.

The core principle of the Declaration of Independence and the principle of natural rights upon which America was founded is that there is a higher moral order upon which the laws of man must be based.

The "authority" of "the Laws of Nature and Nature's God" referred to the Will of God as displayed by the natural order of the world.

The Founders believed power comes from God and is loaned to government.

The Declaration says, "That to secure these rights governments are instructed among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

3. "...the pursuit of happiness"

The Declaration does not say that we have a "right" to be happy.

It says we have the right to Pursue happiness.

And what did "happiness" mean to those who penned the Declaration?

The idea of "happiness" at the time was most closely associated with the idea of pursuing "wisdom and virtue."

It was not, in their minds, the unrestrained self indulgence that many associate with happiness today.

The Founders understood that government could not give people "happiness".

The concept of "pursuing happiness" or pursuing your dreams has attracted people from all over the world---from Asia to Europe to Africa, and yes, Mexico, people continue to come.

While the "enemy within" seems to hate America and seeks to "remake" it, America remains a magnate. People keep coming to America.

Take a moment this weekend and thank God for America--it's past, it's present and it's future under God.

I have drawn from a column written by Newt Gingrich for my comments above. I recommend you read it.

Also, if you can take a moment between picnics, parades, fireworks and barbecue this weekend, why not consider actually reading the text of the Declaration of Independence? Read it to your kids or grand kids.

It really only takes a couple of minutes. Reading it will cause you to more closely identify with our Founders as we face the challenges of our present day America.

God bless you and this great country called America.

Be Vigilant. Be Free. Be Blessed.

Singer Andrea Bocelli Tells Abortion Story

Print Friendly Version of this pagePrint Get a PDF version of this webpagePDF
Andrea Bocelli, the world famous tenor, has shared his personal story about his mother and abortion.

Bocelli says, "Because of my personal convictions as a devout Catholic, I am not fighting against something, I'm fighting for something ---and I'm fighting for life."

Here's the story.

His mother was hospitalized while pregnant for what was thought to be a simple attack of appendicitis. The doctors applied ice on her stomach and after treatments were complete, they advised the mother to abort the child.

Bocelli says, "They told her it was the best solution because the baby would be born with some disability."

The mother refused the abortion and Andrea was born September 22, 1958.

Bocelli says, "Maybe I'm [biased] but I can say that it was the right choice."

He says, "I hope this could encourage many mothers that sometimes find themselves in difficult situations---in those moments when life is complicated but want to save the life of their baby."

Indeed.

Andrea Bocelli, although blind, inspires and entertains audiences around the world with his God-given, one-of-a-kind, tenor voice.

This story, of course, reminds us of a similar story that was publicized during this past Super Bowl.

Tim Tebow, a Heisman Trophy winning college football player, lives today because his mother made the same choice. She chose life---not death.

By the way, for all us Seahawk fans, Tebow will be playing quarterback for the Denver Broncos this coming season. I hope they do well. Except against the Hawks.

Each life is wonderfully and marvelously formed by God. For each, He has a plan and to each He gives a gift.

One can only imagine the loss of contribution to our lives, our culture and our country resulting from the millions of abortions we allow under the guise of "choice".

God forgive us. And thank you for the mothers who choose life.
