President's Day and the Death of Justice Scalia

Today is President's Day.

Today is a federal holiday to remember all our presidents, specifically George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

As we reflect on the impact Washington and Lincoln had on American and world history, we are profoundly reminded of the importance of this office---the most powerful office in the world.

As we reflect on the unexpected death of conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia this weekend, we are further reminded of the importance of this office in that the President of the United States appoints the Justices---which fortunately must be approved by Congress.

President Obama says he will appoint Scalia's replacement before he completes his term as president.

Many, on this President's Day, still feel the sting of Saturday night's so-called GOP debate.

CBS was despicable.

The GOP candidates, were, for the most part, disgusting.

And we have learned over the weekend, the RNC themselves stacked the audience against Trump and Cruz and for Rubio.

George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia. Much has been said about him and he is widely quoted. He was one of the 2 most respected men in early America.

That respect continues today due to the preservation of his letters, speeches and comments---in spite of the "Dead White Men" movement to make he and our Founders and their Constitution irrelevant in today's America.

It was Washington who said, "The constitution is the guide which I never will abandon."

He also said, "Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."

As secular progressives fight to marginalize Christianity in America, they insult reason and commonsense.

Political correctness, an invention of the progressive Cultural Marxists, is fracturing the foundations of our country in ways not yet realized---foundations that Washington and his colleagues put in place while Founding the most powerful, blessed, free, prosperous country in the history of the world.

Lincoln recognized that strength was rooted in biblical principles and drew on it and its Source as he led a nation so deeply divided that it pitted family member against family member.

Lincoln's beliefs and The Civil War that resulted was neither a "popular" belief or a politically correct one.

It ultimately cost Lincoln his life.

But it was right.

Lincoln understood that the ultimate enemy of this great nation that Washington and the Founders had given us was not the enemy across the sea or outside our borders---but it was the enemy within that could ultimately be capable of bringing down the greatest nation.

Lincoln said, "America will never be destroyed from outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Secular Progressivism is destructive by nature. It erodes social and moral foundations with no replacement.

Progressives build pretend cultures and societies, resulting in denying God and Nature's God in regard to human sexuality, family and the sanctity of life---and the fundamentals of right and wrong.

Progressives are currently dismantling the America of Washington and Lincoln.

Jesus made it clear that houses built on sand will fail, those built on the rock of eternal principles will stand.

We hear much about MKL's dream and rightly so.

However, Lincoln also had a dream. He said, "My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the best hope on earth."

As you have heard, Supreme Court Justice Scalia passed away this weekend while on a hunting trip with friends in Texas. He died in his sleep. Initially they reported he died from natural causes, however, we are now learning that there are some who are questioning that statement.

More on that will likely be heard today.

Upon the death of Scalia, President Obama immediately announced he "would" nominate Scalia's replacement before the end of his term, thus seating yet another far Left Progressive on the highest court in the land---a progressive that will for decades tilt the Court to the Left.

Only Congress can stop this from happening. Will those who promised to abolish Obamacare when running for office, but failed to have the courage to actually do it once elected, now have the courage to do the right thing and deny this president that opportunity to further remake this country?

Following Scalia's death this weekend, Ben Shapiro wrote a penetrating article saying, "The death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia doesn't merely mark a tragedy for Constitutional philosophy---it may mark the death of American Constitutionalism as a whole."

He says, "Scalia's jurisprudence also reminded conservatives that there is no substitute for proven Constitutional originalism."

"Most conservatives ignored that when they greenlit the appointment of cipher John Roberts for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court," Shaprio says.

The point Shapiro made at the time and is making now is that Constitutional philosophy matters. It isn't just a game of doing whatever you want politically---counting the votes on marriage, abortion etc., it's at the core how these Justices believe.

Scalia provided a consistent reminder that Constitutional philosophy matters a great deal.

Shapiro, and now others this morning are suggesting another Court appointment by Obama could mark the end of the Constitution itself.

Unlike Justice Kennedy who votes in erratic ways, Scalia gave America a consistent vote for a Constitution beyond modern progressive power politics. Now, with the death of Scalia, Obama has the power to appoint a 5th Justice to join the hard left social engineers Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen Breyer, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

If allowed, Barack Obama will have the last word on his promise to "Fundamentally remake America."

He will create with a single choice, an America our Founders never knew, nor did they envision.

Rather than continuing as the greatest, most prosperous, most free nation in the history of the world, we will become an asterisk of world events, lying in the dust bin of history.

Has God blessed America for this? I don't think so.

Shapiro concludes, "It's a sad commentary on the state of conservative politics that the only thing standing between the United States and the death of its founding document was a brilliant 79-year-old jurist. But unless Republicans stand up on their hind legs now, that will certainly be the case."

Obviously I generally agree with Shapiro's comments, otherwise I would not have quoted him in the way I have, however, there is another part to this seemingly hopeless scenario.

Within months, America gets another chance---we will elect a new president.

I found the GOP debate Saturday night concerning.

CBS was despicable. Every utterance by the moderators was directed at stirring the emotions of the candidates---bringing out the very worst in each of them, turning them on one another, while posturing themselves as "gotcha stars" in front of their industry colleagues and heroes to the progressive Left.

The GOP candidates were disgusting in the way they were allowed to be manipulated. America deserves better than that.

We learned over the weekend that what Trump has asserted is true.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) stacked the audience with people who oppose Trump and Cruz with people who were pro-Rubio---thus the boos.

The RNC is not truthful when they repeatedly tell America they are not trying to control the primary elections.

And if the display by the GOP candidates continues, America may well, by default, elect our first socialist president, or an equally disastrous "has been" who doesn't know she doesn't have to yell since they invented microphones as she speaks with the intonations of 1960s politics.

The American culture is broken---politically and morally.

But God's promises will never be. It is true, "If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

God's directive for success is simple:

Pray, turn from sin, vote and trust Him.

Be Blessed.
