The resource-strapped Portland Police Bureau (PPB) took more than 20 minutes to respond when Antifa members assaulted a Republican campaign event near police headquarters in downtown Portland.
The irony is that the Saturday campaign event was sponsored by a Republican candidate for governor, Stan Pulliam, whose platform includes "refunding" the police department.
No arrests were made.
Be informed, not misled.
Following the event, Pulliam tweeted, "This is what happens when a Republican dares to hold an event in Portland to talk about funding our police."

About the event.
Two people were injured Saturday afternoon when a campaign rally was attacked by protesters in downtown Portland, according to police who added that both told officers that they would seek medical care on their own.
The incident happened around noon Saturday at Chapman Square where a rally was being held for Sandy Mayor Stan Pulliam, who is running for the Republican nomination for governor.
"Significant explosions" could be heard in the area, according to police, who said that a group of protesters threw fireworks, smoke grenades, and balloons filled with paint in the direction of the rally, striking people and vehicles.
Pulliam said, "Antifa shows up. Well, we won't be intimidated and stop speaking the truth."
Pulliam's tweet also included a video showing about 10 people dressed all in black, carrying black flags and wearing black face coverings approaching his rally, tossing smoke grenades.
Fox News reported this: "By the time officers had 'sufficient resources' to establish a crime scene near Southwest 3rd and Main Street, the black-clad demonstrators had already dispersed after hurling smoke grenades, paint-filled balloons, and fireworks, according to police. Two were injured by mortars," police said.
Speaking to the media after the incident, Pulliam said what he and his supporters experienced is what "neighbors throughout the Portland community experience on almost a daily basis."
He said, "We called the police, we called 911. In fact, at the Justice of Peace Center--- we were just outside of their headquarters---and sat on hold for over 20 minutes. No police officers ever arrived until the very end, just to take our statement. And we wonder why we have all the violence and destruction happening on our streets."
Why do we have all this violence on our streets?
The big answer is, that it is a spirit of rebellion toward any authority, including God---linked to a false sense of entitlement.
A statement from the Portland Police confirmed that while a sergeant began monitoring the situation and gathering available resources, there "were only a few officers available in the precinct."
In a separate statement, Friday night into Saturday was described as "an extraordinarily busy evening of significant events" that "strained their resources." The night included five shootings, three serious crashes, and one stolen ambulance within a 12-hour span.
As I'm writing about this, Ecclesiastes 8:11 comes to mind: "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil."
Justice, in the mind of the Progressive, is a tool to be used to advance an agenda, not a virtue rooted in fixed Truth---it's rooted, rather, in evolving, relativistic ideas that are ever-changing.
Our Founding Fathers understood the difference. Our current leadership does not. Their policies are destructive and self-serving-- and upon which we cannot build with success.
Progressive policies are rooted in hypocrisy.
Mike Huckabee made an interesting observation yesterday.
He said:
"Compare this to the story of Christopher Quaglin, the first person charged in the January 6th Capitol riot. He’s been held pending trial for over a year. His attorneys have just filed a habeas corpus petition claiming his constitutional rights have been repeatedly violated. They said Quaglin, who has celiac disease, has been denied the gluten-free diet he requires, gone days without food and lost 68 pounds. He’s been kept indoors for months, held in solitary confinement, and put in cells with rats and black mold. He’s had his right to consult with his attorney violated and prevented from seeing the discovery materials in his own case. The attorneys make five different arguments for his release and say anyone should be sufficient grounds. But he’s still in jail while Antifa thugs continue to assault people at will and go free."
Huckabee concluded,
"Maybe we should all forward the story of the attack in Portland to our Director of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, who seems to think the biggest threat of violent terrorism in America is Trump voters. We could also send it to the members of Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th Kangaroo Kommittee. They’re so zealous to identify and lock away anyone who would use violence to impede the sacred electoral processes of “our democracy,” so here you go. Sic ‘em!"
