The Associated Press has found another story it apparently believes will undermine the Trump Administration's agenda.
They are reporting that "a network of medical clinics that serves low-income residents in Maine said Wednesday it is shutting down its primary care operations because of Trump administration cuts to abortion providers."
AP says, "President Donald Trump’s policy and tax bill, known as the 'big beautiful bill,' blocked Medicaid money from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. The parameters in the bill also stopped funding from reaching Maine Family Planning, a much smaller provider that also delivers other medical services in the mostly rural state."
Be informed, not misled.
Maine Family Planning has informed its nearly 1,000 primary care patients that it will no longer be providing primary care service starting today, Oct. 31, the network said. The loss of Medicaid funding took about $2 million in reimbursements from the network, and it is no longer able to sustain primary care, it said.
The network “will continue seeing patients who need family planning care, regardless of insurance status, for as long as we are able,” Maine Family Planning said in a statement. The group also provides birth control, sexually transmitted disease testing, cancer screenings, and routine OBGYN visits, it said.
"Family Planning" is code for abortion.
“We were caught in this net because we provide abortion care as part of a full range of sexual and reproductive health care at 18 sites. We are proud to provide that care,” said George Hill, president and chief executive officer of Maine Family Planning.
Of the 17,535 visits made to Maine Family Planning’s 18 health centers and mobile medical unit in 2024, 13% were for primary care services, Hill said.
Can one assume that the other 83% was "Family Planning?"
The fight to kill unwanted, unborn babies continues.
Maine Family Planning has fought the halting of Medicaid dollars in federal court. But it suffered a setback in August when a federal judge ruled against restoring funding during the network's ongoing lawsuit against the Trump administration. The network appealed to a higher court but has yet to receive a response. Hill said the legal fight will continue.
Their lawyer says, "Medicaid dollars are not used for its abortion services, and it’s unfair to cut off funding for the clinics solely because Congress wanted to defund Planned Parenthood.”
That's not entirely true. What abortion shops often do is use Medicaid money to replace other expenditures related to abortions, then claim they are not using government money to pay for abortions.
The Center for Reproductive Rights filed the case in federal court on behalf of the network, and said Friday it will continue to fight to restore the funding. Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, called the loss of funding for Maine Family Planning “part of a larger strategy to shut down clinics even in states like Maine that protect the right to abortion.”
The march continues to shut down clinics like Maine that perform abortions.
Some good news.
Trump administration officials recommitted to “protecting unborn life at all stages” at the five-year anniversary event of a 40-nation coalition of countries that declare that there is no international right to abortion.
The Geneva Consensus Declaration “seeks to expand health and thriving for women, and protect the sovereign right of nations to support health, life, and family through national policy and legislation.” The Institute of Women’s Health hosted members of Congress, Trump administration officials, and global leaders to celebrate the anniversary.
President Donald Trump penned a letter, which was read at the celebration, promising to “never waver in protecting the sanctity of every human life.”
“My administration is steadfastly devoted to restoring a culture that values the inherent dignity of every child and to upholding the eternal truth that every person is created in the holy image and likeness of God, with infinite worth and boundless potential,” he wrote.
Takeaway
Jim O’Neill, deputy secretary of health and human services, said the Trump administration was “eager and proud” to rejoin the Geneva Consensus Declaration in January after the Biden administration left the coalition of pro-life countries.
“The denial of fundamental truths can destroy nations from within,” he said. “At the root of the evils we face—murder in the womb, the blurring of lines between sexes, and radical social agendas—is a hatred of nature as it was designed for life, the way it was meant to be lived,” O’Neill said. “This ideology does not just deny biology. It declares war against it.”
O’Neill promised the Trump administration would continue advancing the Geneva Consensus Declaration’s principles globally.
God bless President Trump.
