Beck-Palin-Christianity and the State of the Nation

While Associated Press reported the crowd in Washington DC this past Sunday to be in the "tens of thousands," less defensive news sources put it at 300,000 to 500,000 people attending the Beck event.

Most media organizations tried to either minimize the event, a near impossible task given the attendance, or distort what it was really about. The media chose to use words like "far right," "tea party activists," "anti-tax," and "anti-government" to define the event. NBC's Brian Williams made sure President Obama had the opportunity to tell NBC's viewers that he was "ignoring" the event.

Whatever the media tried to make of it and however they tried to define it, it was at its core, a Mormon talk show host and an evangelical former Governor telling hundreds of thousands of people to, "Tell the truth and turn to God."

Both Beck and Palin said the event was about "restoring honor" not politics. What if that is true? And if it were just a political thing, why would half a million people attend "that" political rally but not other political rallies in those numbers?

If you strip away all the nuances, you still have a Mormon talk show host and an evangelical former Governor urging people to turn to God and restore a nation. Theological discussion can come later. At the moment, two non clergy were saying, "Turn to God, restore a nation."

If pastors will not lead, who....?

The most defining statement, in my opinion, came from Sarah Palin.

As she urged those gathered and those who would listen and watch through radio and TV to change the course of the nation, she reflected for a moment saying, "Sometimes our challenges seem insurmountable."

Indeed they do.

Then she said what every person of faith needs to hear:

"Look around you, you're not alone."

There is a growing sense that the only solution for a nation that has collectively lost her way, is a spiritual one.

Last summer, Katy Abrams, at a town hall meeting, told Arlen Spector, D-PA., "I don't believe this is just about healthcare. It's not about TARP. It's not about Left or Right. This is about the systematic dismantling of this country...you have awakened the sleeping giant."

Indeed. And may there be a spiritual awakening that history will record as a defining moment in America.

Be Vigilant. Be Strong. Be Encouraged. Be Prayerful. Be Blessed.

Waiting For Mr. Obama

David Ruiz, a 22-year-old Capitol Hill resident and a UW student, told the Seattle Times Saturday, "It's not that I'm disappointed in Obama, but things haven't really improved much."

Ben Anderstone of Tacoma says he will never forget the excitement during the Obama campaign. "In the weeks leading up to the campaign," he says, "my Facebook page was completely lit up with politics and people debating the various positions on issues, but this year, I'm just not seeing that."

The Seattle Times and other news organizations have developed a narrative thread that is similar and reflects concern---deep concern, for what they see not happening, with many suggestions as to how President Obama and his people can be rescued.

They say midterm elections never generate the enthusiasm of a presidential election. That's true.

They say Obama drew 66% of voters under 30, compared to only 45% of those 65 and older. True.

They say young people tend to not vote in midterm elections, therefore, that could be a problem in November. A problem that is not related to the President's policy failures. Just one of those things.

Yesterday The New York Times ran their own editorial, "Waiting For Mr. Obama," which began, "If the President has a big economic initiative up his sleeve... now would be a good time to let the rest of us in on it."

The press and the far left kids who voted for him are still waiting. The press not only selectively and carefully covered him during his campaign and into the White House, but also contributed heavily to him.

You won't be surprised to know that Obama and the Democrats got 88% of the 2008 contributions by TV network executives, writers and reporters.

While the media worked this weekend to lower expectations regarding the outcome of the November elections, sought to blame others for Obama's policy failures, including American politics itself, even they opened the door to the possibility that things may change this year.

While Anderstone's Facebook page may not be active, others are. Dino Rossi has nearly 35,000 followers on Facebook, while Patty Murray has less than half that many.

It isn't just old guys (65 and older) that are energized. Justin Bryant, former president of University of Washington College Republicans says, "We're seeing more students stand up and say, 'I'm a Republican and I don't like what's going on.'"

Bryant told the Seattle Times that there is a large number of Republicans at UW even though it is a liberal campus. I also know there is an active group of young Republicans in Spokane.

President Obama has accomplished 2 things so far.

First, through broken and unkept promises, he has tamped down the enthusiasm of many of those who elected him. The word dreams he painted have vanished with the light of truth and day.

Second. He has shown many of us what can happen when people of faith and conservatives don't vote. With his far left socialistic policies, his cynical disregard for America's exceptionalism and his radical support for abortion and the homosexual agenda, he has galvanized conservatives and people of faith.

The New York Times editorial board in "Waiting For Mr. Obama" suggest two things to the President:

HARD TRUTHS and BIG IDEAS. Hopefully their wait will expire in November of 2012.

I think there is a growing number who feel the President is capable of neither. And change will begin this November.

Be Informed. Be Vigilant. Be Discerning. Be Prayerful. Be Active. Be Blessed.

Something Good In Education

Something terrific has happened in education.

While public education continues to crumble under the weight of twisted tolerance and perverted political correctness, more focused on advancing their experimental social laboratory than meaningful education, there is another bright rising star in the field of private education. Another light that is rising in the darkness.

After a number of years of financial struggles, The King's College in New York City has turned the corner financially, defined a clear and intensified mission and named a new president.

Dinesh D'Souza has been named president. D'Souza is known worldwide as one of Christianity's most effective apologists, a best selling author of books like, "What's So Great About America" and "Illiberal Education". He has spoken out on the subjects of church-state separation, same-sex marriage, affirmative action, Islam and atheism. He was a policy analyst in the Reagan White House and has been called by Investor's Business Daily, "One of the top young policy makers in the country."

Although The King's College has existed for nearly 70 years, in recent years they have overcome their financial challenges, relocated to the Empire State Building in downtown New York and in the past few years have seen enrollment increase by double digits.

Now, many believe they are poised for significant growth in enrollment and measurable impact on the culture.

D'Souza says he sees King's as a part of the solution to the problems in higher education as they are discussed in his book, "Illiberal Education".

He says, "Our goal at Kings is to prepare intellectually gifted students to transform society."

President Obama: America A Nation Of "Non Believers"

Much has been said lately about what President Obama really believes. Is he a Christian? Is he a Muslim? The media is becoming aroused and has begun a parade of defense as they have become vicariously threatened by the growing number of people who believe he is a Muslim.

NEWSWEEK has published a feature article titled, "America The Ignorant" which gives a list, including the belief that Obama is a Muslim, of "odd ball" and "ignorant" things unwashed Americans believe. Their tone and their text is offensive and condescending.

It is Terrance Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief at CNS NEWS that is asking what I feel may be an even more important and revealing question: "Why does Obama tell Muslims America is a nation of 'non-believers'?"

What is the President thinking? He has virtually created a mantra in continuing to say that "Americans are, among other things, 'non-believers'?

Does he not know the stats? Or are there other motives?

In his inaugural address Obama said, "We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus and non-believers."

A few weeks later in his first public media interview, he told Al Arabiya television network, "So what I want to communicate is the fact that in all my travels throughout the Muslim world, what I have come to understand is that regardless of your faith---and America is a country of Muslims, Jews, Christians and non-believers--- "

On November 7, 2009, 4 days before Veterans Day and 2 days after the US Army psychiatrist and radical terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan murdered 12 US troops and 1 civilian, and wounded 29 others at Fort Hood, President Obama, while ordering the flags to be flown at half staff said, "Veteran's Day is our chance to honor those Americans who've served on battlefields from Lexington to Antietam ...They are Americans of every race, faith and station. They are Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus and non-believers."

On August 13---this month, while hosting a dinner to celebrate the beginning of Ramadan, while telling his primarily Muslim guests that he supported the building of the Mosque near Ground Zero he said, "We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus and non-believers."

Why is he compelled---driven, to imply that America is a nation of non-believers much like we are a nation of Muslims---a nation of Jews--- and, oh yes, a nation of Christians.

He surely knows the facts, doesn't he?

Here are the facts:

The Census Bureau does not ask Americans their denomination, however, they rely on the American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) to estimate the nation's religious demographics. Here's what they found in their last survey in 2008:

* 76% say they are Christians.
* 1.2% say they are Jews
* 0.6% say they are Muslims
* 0.9% say they are agnostic
* 0.7% say they are atheists

So 0.7% are essentially driving the crusade to remove God from every vestige of public expression and causing The President of the United States to elevate their population equivalency to that of Christians and Jews.

The press regularly gives atheists population equivalency with Christians when atheists buy their anti-God billboards etc., but the President of the United States?

He says he is "reaching out" to the Muslim world---building bridges, but his words would seem to validate what the Muslims already believe about America. That we are infidels and should be killed. How does that build bridges?

It doesn't.

A recent Pew Research Center poll found that the favorability rating in Muslim countries of Obama's policies are as low as his predecessor's, George W. Bush.

And that Arabs and Muslims are saying that Obama is "all talk."

We can speculate on his faith. Is he or isn't he? But his words seem rather clear and reveal a different question.

Is he purposefully trying to diminish America's standing in the Muslim world? Did he hear too many sermons from Rev. Wright? Is he really that inept? Has someone not given him the census count?

Jeffrey concludes that whatever his motive, "His words---on their face---seek to diminish God's standing in America."

This is troubling. Thomas Jefferson found this kind of thinking troubling as well. He wrote of our God given rights in the Declaration and later in his "Notes On The State Of Virginia"-- "And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath."

Indeed. We have lost our way. We are violating the basis of our liberties. God help us.

Changing the Conversation at Church

Monday, I noted that the Human Rights Campaign, America's largest homosexual advocacy group, is assaulting our children, beginning in Kindergarten, with curriculum designed to indoctrinate and recruit under the guise of "safe schools initiatives" and the "Welcoming Schools" program.

They are also targeting the church.

HRC says their, "Religion and Faith Program's mission is to change the conversation about gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered people and faith."

Because of the misguided passion of some Christian leaders and church denominations, the homosexual agenda has indeed been able to "change the conversation." In an attempt to identify with the post modern culture, some church leaders and the churches they represent, have forsaken biblical teaching on the matter, lost their moral compass and consequently their leadership and any redeeming voice in a culture that is desperately in need. Others simply remain silent on the matter because it is less risky.

HRC has created a new resource that they describe as an "on-line weekly preaching and devotional resource" called "Out Of Scripture."

"Out Of Scripture" places comments about the Bible alongside the real life experiences and concerns of homosexuals and their allies, according to their website.

They have collected over 175 conversations about the Bible and, they say, "With the skilled help of 100 diverse scholars and pastors, from over 11 different denominations, you will discover a fresh approach to Scripture."

The "fresh new approach" was displayed by President Obama a while back when he weighed in on homosexual relations saying Jesus' Sermon on the Mount affirmed homosexual relations while dismissing what he referred to as an obscure passage of Scripture on the subject in Romans chapter one.

HRC says, "Out Of Scripture" is "especially helpful for preachers preparing sermons based on the Revised Common Lectionary."

They are also organizing progressive clergy coalitions in fellowship halls on Thursday evenings, partaking in Shabbat services on Friday evenings and preaching from the pulpit on Sunday mornings followed by a "Safe Space Conversation" in a church basement on Monday.

"And," HRC says, "we are taking the message of equality on the road to seminaries, college campuses and assembly halls, talking to people about faith, fairness and the religious tools for advocacy they can draw upon from their own faith traditions."

In the present cultural environment of political correctness, tolerance, fairness rather than justice and eclectic Christian faith, they may have found the perfect storm. As our culture has shifted from what God says---the divine authority of the Scripture, to what I think he should say to be relevant in a post modern culture, we have indeed allowed the Christian narrative to become a relative conversation. Conversations with God have become popularized---and certainly believers can talk to God through prayer.

However, it is entirely possible that we are at a time when people should allow God to have a conversation with them. And He speaks through his Divinely inspired word---the Bible. Perhaps a focus on how we can become relevant to the Bible would be more productive than how we can revise the Bible to become relevant to our experiences and lifestyle.

God help us.

Joe Fuiten Responds to Sen. Stevens

I received an email last night from "Danille" on behalf of Joe Fuiten.

Our regular blog will continue tomorrow.

We have linked Fuiten's response to Senator Sevens with some reluctance.

Our reluctance is not based on our support for a specific candidate, as was implied in previous comments. Faith and Freedom did not endorse a candidate in the Rossi, Didier, Akers primary, however, we will fully support Dino Rossi in the general election and will do all we can do to help him get elected.

Our reluctance is based on Fuiten's propensity toward and history of taking private matters between people in the faith community and making them a public dispute. Something on which the press thrives. Referendum 71 is a recent example.

Faith and Freedom does not want to be used as a facilitator for this pattern of behavior.

The Battle for Your Child in the Classroom and in Church

The battle in the classroom:

As our kids prepare to go back to school the "Human Rights Campaign," America's largest homosexual advocacy group, is prepared to greet them---in the classroom.

The HRC says, "Generation Equality, the current group of high school and college aged young people, is more supportive of LGBT equality than any other generation in our country's history. As young people work to attain the goals of the queer community on their campuses, it is our hope that we can help by providing tools and facilitating connections."

"Attain the goals," is the operative word. Their goals are not a better understanding of people who choose to participate in homosexual relationships, but to indoctrinate and recruit kids at the most vulnerable time in their life using the authority of the classroom.

One such "tool" is their new outreach to teachers and administrators of elementary schools called, "Welcoming Schools."

The "Welcoming School" project is, according to their website, "a new comprehensive guide for administrators, educators, parents and guardians who want to strengthen their school's approach to family diversity, gender stereotyping and bullying."

They say the program is designed for K-5 learning and is inclusive of Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, and Transgender families and individuals in the broader context of diversity.

And how does the National Education Association feel about this new outreach to kids?

You will not be surprised by the strong endorsement of Dennis Van Roekel, President of the NEA.

He says, "The 'Welcoming Schools Guide' is an innovative tool providing invaluable assistance for all students. This is a wonderful complement to existing anti-bullying programs and a welcome addition to any school's tool box for preparing students for today's diverse world."

Candi Cushman, with Focus on the Family says, "Under the innocent sounding 'Welcoming Schools,' this controversial stealth curriculum has already been piloted in several public school districts."

She says these activist groups realize that most parents would strongly object to these messages being promoted in public schools, so now they've started introducing homosexuality lessons---sometimes even sexually graphic information----in the name of "tolerance" under the cover of the "safe school initiates" or "anti-bullying" programs.

Gone are the days when children could be sent off to public school with a reasonable expectation that they would be safe---physically and mentally.

So-called "safe schools initiatives" and other anti-bullying programs are all to often programs developed primarily for indoctrination and recruitment by homosexual activists and for the advancement of their agenda.

I cannot overstate the importance of vigilance on the part of parents and grandparents as kids go back to school this year. Watch for any mention of "Welcoming Schools" in their curriculum.

Be aware of what your child is being taught. Remember the old clique, "You can't tell a book by it's cover," and neither can you tell a curriculum by its title.

Be very vigilant and be involved in your local school.

Tough Times and Absolute Answers

As President Obama and his family headed out for their 6th holiday of the year, this time to Martha's Vineyard, yesterday, the news was not good on many fronts for both the President and the country.

While the Obama's seek a little fun in the sun, there are dark clouds gathering.

Weekly jobless claims unexpectedly jumped to 500,000 yesterday, the highest in 9 months.

The non-partisan CBO reported yesterday that the US deficit is now 9.1% of the GDP, assuring tough times for the foreseeable future.

The current 9.5% unemployment is now not expected to fall to the desired 5% until 2014 or beyond. The benchmark for full employment has typically been 4%.

A poll released this week found that only 4 in 10 approve of the President's handling of the economy.

And the President's comments about the Mosque at Ground Zero are not going away.

Even the left to far left Time Magazine reported yesterday that according to their own poll, 61% oppose construction of the Mosque, while only 26% approve and the public perception is that President Obama is part of the 26%.

Seventy percent (70%) feel it will be an insult to the victims of the 9-11 attacks.

And 24% believe President Obama is a Muslim. Time reports that 24% "mistakenly believe that the current occupant of the Oval Office is himself a Muslim."

The White House is doing their best to tamp down the growing doubts about what the President really believes.

White House Spokesman, Bill Burton, on the flight to Martha's Vineyard yesterday told the press that people don't really care about the President's religion.

But they do care, and denials are not causing their concerns to go away.

Burton said, "The President is obviously a Christian. He prays every day." Clearly Mr. Burton missed the fact that many people pray every day to all kinds of objects, gods and shrines.

These are tough times. Times when many believe there are no absolutes, therefore no absolute answers.

Fatalism.

Here are some ABSOLUTES. Think about them over the weekend.

First. "God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble. So we need not fear even if the world blows up, and the mountains crumble into the sea. He will not delay His help. Stand silent. Know that I am God. I will be honored by every nation in the world." (Psalms 46:1,2,5,10. Living Bible.)

Relax. God is in control.

Second. "If my people , who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." ( ll Chronicles 7:14)

Heal their land.

Be Prayerful. Be Humble. Be Healed.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Now Supports Gay Marriage

Elisabeth Hasselbeck now supports gay marriage ...and is confused about abortion.

It wouldn't matter so much what she thought or said, except that millions of viewers watch ABC's "The View" television program and have come to know her as the "conservative" on the show. They have also seen her on FOX News with Hannity and others.

In 2008, she strongly supported California's Proposition 8 and marriage as only between one man and one woman.

Now she says she has changed her mind.

She told Adam Buckman at FANCAST, "I actually support gay marriage," and said she is conflicted about what she believes about abortion.

Hasselbeck told Buckman, "I would rather change a heart than a law. Always trying to mandate, mandate, mandate this or that is not the way that I believe this country should be run."

I have spent my entire life introducing people, privately, from the pulpit, and on radio and television to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. A relationship that truly changes the heart.

That is the Great Commission of Christianity.

But I am well aware that morality can and must be legislated, until all hearts are changed.

The apparent change in her beliefs are disappointing, not only because she has caused people to believe she was a conservative, but a biblical Christian as well.

But there is an alarming back story to this that reflects a deep concern to many, including myself.

She said, "There are so many gray issues, be it abortion or gay marriage---there's a lot of discussion to be had."

No moral absolutes.

She continued, "I wish there was more focus on the in-between, gray area than [just] smacking a label on somebody."

None of us like labels, but these comments reveal a deeper issue within the Christian community. As people seek the "gray" area, they are usually seeking a verbal cover, due to tolerance turned on its head, for their embrace of relativism. And a safe social position.

In a study of more than 3000 youth and their take on moral, religious and theological issues, those taking the survey coined a new phrase that they thought best described their findings---"Moral Therapeutic Deism---the New American Religion" and called this generation the "Whatever" generation.

The lack of true biblical teaching in so many Christian churches has led to a confused, re-branded form of civil Christianity that emphasizes self reliance to a point that it bleeds over into a rather narcissistic focus on therapeutic benefits to its adherents. And a "whatever" attitude toward fundamental social issues.

This new brand of Christianity believes that:

1. A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on Earth.

2. God wants people to be good, nice and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.

3. The central goal of life is to be happy and feel good about one's self.

4. God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.

5. Good people go to heaven.

The researchers found that most teens and adults for that matter had little to no idea as to what the basic theological tenants of biblical Christianity are about.

The researchers found that the deity behind Moralistic Therapeutic Deism is very much like the deistic God of 18th century philosophers rather than the biblical God.

They concluded that this seductive, but radical transformation of Christian theology and Christian belief replaces the sovereignty of God with the sovereignty of the self. Relativism has replaced biblical absolutes and sin is excluded from the picture while doctrines as fundamental as the justice of God and the sanctity of life are discarded as out of step with the times and an obstruction to self actualization.

They learned that Truth has been sacrificed on an altar of a relativistic understanding of truth, Christianity has, in too many cases, been actively colonized from within its own institutions of faith by a replacement that bears little resemblance to the "faith once delivered" and Christian institutions have accommodated themselves to the contemporary dominate culture to a degree that there are hardly any distinctions between the two.

According to the researchers, we have failed to teach our children basic biblical doctrines while they have become indoctrinated with a very non-biblical worldview and a new version of paganism.

Which leads us to more focus on the so-called "gray" issues.

We have lost our way because we have declared the Moral Compass to be obsolete and not compatible with our culture.

We need a great spiritual awakening.

A Time to Come Together

All who wanted to vote in the Washington State primary has done so and for the most part, the die is cast as to will be on the November ballot.

State Supreme Court Justice Jim Johnson has 63% of the vote with 51% reported. He's safe. Justice Alexander is leading but not with the required 50% plus 1 as of this morning.

Dino Rossi and Patty Murray will be on the November ballot. I have linked a map of how the counties voted for Rossi, Didier and Murray. At a glance you will see, as usual, there is a marked difference between the west side and the central-east side of the state.

There is much work to be done over the next two and a half months.

In the Legislative Districts there were, in many cases, more than one candidate that represented conservative, Christian values. There are some good people who will not be on the November ballot.

Now is our time to look forward. And we must do it together or come Thanksgiving time, the "righteous," as it is written, will be groaning. And our country and our communities will continue to slide toward moral and fiscal destruction.

Clint Didier has already begun to set a constructive tone. While he said he doesn't quit until the game is over, he told The Seattle Times he will need to sit down with Rossi, before agreeing to endorse or campaign for him.

He said he wants to try, "to coach Dino up a bit on how to get my followers."

Dino, please meet with him sooner than later.

Over the past several years, I have become aware of some significant rifts within organizations that advocate for both homosexual "marriage" and the advancement of abortion, however, in nearly every case they keep their differences out of public view. And, with a complicit press that rarely if ever looks under their covers, they have succeeded in advancing their agenda and cause.

Often we in the conservative and Christian community seem to have a need to affirm ourselves by publicly attacking those whom we should support for our cause---whether we like them or not. And the press thrives on it.

This truly is a time when we must come together.

This morning Rasmussen released a new survey that shows that 60% of voters say most in Congress don't care what they think and 56% say Government should stay out of the housing market.

Translated: "You are not representing us and we want to take our government back."

Keep in mind, this is the season when many career politicians spend time and money telling you what they think you need to hear, to further enable them in their career.

Be Discerning.

Candidates will be holding many public events and meetings over the next couple of months. Attend them. Respectively, but firmly, ask questions. If they change the subject, ask again. Your asking will inform you and could help form or influence some positions of the candidate. And will influence some in attendance.

Be Active.

And finally, be Prayerful.

Ben Franklin knew the importance of coming together. He told his colleagues if they didn't hang together, they would surely hang separately.

If you care about faith, family and the sanctity of life---and I know you do, this is a time of opportunity to change the character of government, one office at a time.

God help us.

Today We Vote and Obama Comes to Town to Tell Us How

Before I share a few thoughts on today's election and President Obama's visit to Seattle today to tell us how we ought to vote---- and to pick up money for the road ahead, a heads up on two important national news stories.

First, President Obama is parsing words, again. This time it's over his comments at a White House dinner to celebrate the start of Muslim Ramadan, regarding the Mosque at Ground Zero.

Friday: "Let me be clear: As a citizen and as a President, I believe that Muslims have the same right...to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan."

Outrage from the public, including his own Harry Reid.

Saturday: "I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to put a Mosque there."

Monday: Hamas agreed with the President and publicly backed the plan to build the Mosque at Ground Zero.

Tuesday: On to Seattle to raise money for Patty Murray. And to point out that Republicans are obstructing while his party is acting. He will also tell you to forget Rossi, Didier, Akers and vote to send Murray back to DC because he needs her.

And secondly, a federal appeals court put California's homosexual "marriage" on hold, indefinitely, pending the appeal.

So today we vote. Oh, I know many of you have mailed in your ballot weeks ago and some are busily dropping them off or getting them postmarked today. But today, they begin counting and reporting the results after the polls officially close this evening. Today is election day.

We will be giving updated reports and links on our website this evening as they become available.

Our position on this primary has been to strongly advocate for people to become informed, to be prayerful and to be very discerning regarding their vote.

In some races there are several highly qualified candidates. We sincerely believe that as Christian, conservative voters become informed and prayerful, they will make wise decisions. And God will lead them.

In other races it is very clear who Christians and conservatives should and will vote for.

Following today's election, Faith and Freedom will be working every day to help elect those who will support our values and principles and to defeat those who do not.

I know you will stand with us and all those qualified candidates, whether or not you voted for them in the primary.

Secretary of State Sam Reed---There He Goes Again

Once again Secretary of State Sam Reed is publishing a public defense of his desire to deliver the names and addresses of the 138,000 citizens who signed R-71 petitions to waiting homosexual activists.

A week ago this past Friday, his office declared that the near record number of signatures on petitions this year is an indication of the acceptance of his discloser policy. We argued that people are signing petitions "in spite of his policy" because of the fiscal fiasco Gregoire's administration has created. Things are so bad people are taking the risk. And there are no controversial social issue initiatives this year.

This past Friday his office was at it again, reporting that, "nearly 2 million signatures have been released in recent years without apparent incident."

Here's his detailed "by the numbers" report:

Unfortunately, the Secretary either doesn't understand the volatility of the homosexual "marriage" movement and the vulnerability of those who oppose it by defending natural marriage, or he simply doesn't care.

None of the Secretary's "numbers" examples rise to the equivalent level of vulnerability.

Signing a petition to adjust or roll back taxes cannot be honestly compared to standing against the fury of the homosexual activist community, with their threats to Washington citizens and their history of property destruction and personal harassment in California alone.

Mr. Secretary, please reconsider your position on this case.

In 1994, Hands Off Washington, a homosexual activist organization asked that the occupations and employers of their donors be kept secret. The PDC allowed the exclusion.

Are some more protected under the law than others?

Washington State Primary ballots have been out for sometime and many have already voted. For those who have not done so yet, please do.

The deadline is next Tuesday, the 17th. Please be sure your ballot is in by Tuesday.

I suggest you also encourage others at church and elsewhere this weekend to get their ballots in as well.

Be discerning. As we have come to expect, there is in-fighting and accusations being made within the religious, conservative camp regarding certain candidates in this primary election.

Faith and Freedom has not become involved in any of the conflicts between the parties. We are simply encouraging everyone to vote and to be as informed as possible. And to be discerning.

Court Prohibits Reed From Releasing R-71 Names

Judge Settle has ruled that Secretary of State Sam Reed cannot release the names of R-71 petition signers to homosexual activists until the case is heard in his court.

It is likely to be heard in November.

The following is a press release from our lead attorney, James Bopp, Jr. :

Court Prohibits Release of Referendum Petitions; Will Consider Harassment Exception

Today, a federal judge entered an order preventing Washington from releasing the names and addresses of individuals that signed a referendum petition to repeal Washington’s “everything but marriage” domestic partnership law. Several opposition groups threatened to post the names of the petition signers on the Internet in an effort to encourage uncomfortable conversations with petition signers. Similar efforts around the country have resulted in death threats, property damage, and other harassment directed at supporters of traditional marriage.

Protect Marriage Washington, the sponsor of the petition, obtained a ruling last year preventing Washington from releasing the names and addresses of the petition signers. Earlier this summer, the Supreme Court reversed that decision, and held that disclosure of referendum petitions generally does not violate the U.S. Constitution. However, the Supreme Court sent the case back to Washington to consider whether disclosure of the identities of the petition signers is unconstitutional in light of the widespread harassment directed at supporters of traditional marriage. Today’s ruling will allow the Court to consider Protect Marriage Washington’s case.

James Bopp, Jr., lead counsel for Protect Marriage Washington, is pleased with the Court’s ruling. “Supporters of traditional marriage have received death threats and have had their personal property destroyed after standing up to protect the institution of marriage. No one should have to endure the harassment that these individuals have endured in their personal and professional lives for standing up for what they believe in. I am confident that when the judge considers all of the evidence, copies of the petitions will not be released to the public.”

Today’s ruling will remain in effect until the Court can consider Protect Marriage Washington’s arguments that disclosure of the petitions will expose petition signers to a reasonable probability of threats, harassment, and reprisals. The Court has asked the parties to agree to an accelerated schedule. No further hearings in the case are scheduled at this time.

How Much Does A Vote Cost?

Rasmussen released a survey yesterday that shows voters "overwhelmingly" believe that most members of Congress are for sale and over half believe their own representative has been bought with cash or a campaign donation.

The survey found that 70% believe most members of Congress are willing to sell their vote.

The concern of voters over government ethics and corruption is second only to their concern over the economy.

How much does a vote cost?

Well, 7% believe a contribution of $1000 will do the trick. Another 7% says it takes more than $100,000 and 22% believe a Congressman can be influenced by $10,000, while 15% say it takes $50,000.

The summary is; Just less than a third of us think a vote can be bought for $10,000 or less. Just over a third of us think it takes $50,000 or more---the rest aren't sure, but believe it happens.

The bigger question, which was not asked in the Rasmussen survey, but must be asked of all of us if we are to prosper as a nation is, "How did we get to this place? And what should we do now?"

Every Republican will likely blame the Democrats and every Democrat will likely blame the Republicans. And we will sit through endless paid slick TV commercials through this coming November while the fault lies with neither party.

A voice of wisdom from the past, a mind and heart that helped frame this great nation, tells us how we got here and what we must do going forward. It's about voting and it's about being informed and exercising discernment.

"The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty [voting]; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men [or women] in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men [or women] will be appointed to execute the laws, the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men [or women] and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails...it must be because the citizens neglect the Divine commands, and elect bad men [and women] to make and administer the laws."

The only thing people told Rasmussen they see as worse than the corruption in government among elected officials is the press.

That's right. Media bias. Press people pretending to be objective as they strain and perspire to move their preferred secular, so-called progressive agenda forward, elevating those with whom they agree and seeking to destroy those with whom they disagree. Calling it "news".

If there is a clarion call to people of faith and conservatives it has to be this:

*The press has an agenda and it most likely does not reflect your agenda. Don't let them influence you.

*Politicians are inclined to tell you what they think you want to hear. Some of them hold the beliefs they are espousing, some do not. This is where you come in.

*Remember, "The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty." This "duty" is to vote. You've got to vote.

And you must vote responsibly. To do so you must be informed and you must be discerning.

The 3rd chapter of Malachi in the Old Testament speaks to several important spiritual issues, including restoration and renewal. (v.18) "Then you shall again discern between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him."

Vote wisely and encourage others to do so as well.

Marriage - "The Battle Will Never Be Lost"

Pastors across California and the country are assessing this week the impact of last week's ruling by a homosexual, radical, activist judge, which struck down Proposition 8 and the definition of marriage in California as between one man and one woman.

California pastors and the people who listen to them are both grieved and outraged. By now you have heard or read the columns, blogs and commentaries that note that the judge sees nothing sacred, nor significant about natural, traditional marriage or the vote of the people to preserve it.
However, it is the voice of Pastor John Milhouse of Calvary Chapel Moreno Valley that I heard above the grief and anger and celebration and promises that spoke a word of joy to my heart personally. Milhouse, who was deeply involved in the Prop. 8 campaign, said "he was saddened and acknowledged that people are saddened and frustrated that judges are determining what laws should be accepted by the people."

He said, "God performed the first wedding [and] our country has been founded on principles laid out in scripture."

All true. But it was his following comment that warmed my heart and gave rise to my spirit:

"I don't think the battle will ever be lost..."

He continued by saying our response should always be to pray and do what we do in love, because we are not anti-people and we aren't anti-gays---but "we don't agree with their lifestyle."

After hearing a former Christian lobbyist in Olympia tell the Seattle press he feels the marriage battle is lost and reading comments by pastors and leaders defending the absence of their voice and influence from the cultural battle for marriage, family and the sanctity of life and endless lectures on the history of culture and our "Post Christian culture" and the mandate for the emerging church in such a culture, it is refreshing beyond measure to simply hear a pastor tell a national news outlet, "I don't think the battle will ever be lost..."

Thank you Pastor Milhouse for reminding us that their are eternal principles. Principles worth standing for in cultural victory and defeat. And those principles will not be banished from the human experience.

Reed is Wrong

Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed published an email message Friday telling citizens across the state: "Voters Wild About 'Direct Democracy.'"

Since our memo to the King of England back in 1776, we have indeed liked our freedoms and the practice of democracy.

The Secretary's office reports that this is, "one of those high-watermark years" in that a record 75 initiatives to the people were filed and 6 have qualified for the November ballot with enough signatures.

Secretary Reed's conclusion is articulated by his Director of Elections, Nick Handy:

"We have heard some critics say that people will be less willing to take part in the initiative process this year, given all the talk of the Secretary of State's policy of allowing public release of petitions. But we are certainly not seeing any hesitation at all."

"We are certainly not seeing" is an operative phrase. I'll come back to that.

OF RELATED NOTE: We received a lengthy comment from Tom Lang, a director of the national knowthyneighbor organization, this weekend. He requested we publish his comment in response to our Friday's blog regarding the R-71 names. He is attempting to explain the mission of his organization. In the spirit of fairness we published it. We are not bigoted, nor do we "hate" homosexuals. While we believe God loves all people and wants to deliver, forgive and restore all of us, we do not believe biblical teaching allows for affirmation and celebration of the homosexual lifestyle. Nor do we believe it is an expression of "hate" to reject the notion that marriage and family must be redefined to prove our tolerance or their equality.

You will note, Lang takes considerable issue with Josh Friedes and his "cronies" at Equal Rights Washington. While we reject the mission and frankly question the transparency of his statements, we felt you should read them and have opportunity to respond directly to him.

Mr. Handy says 2.2 million signatures have been gathered this summer for various petitions, affirming, "That many, many people are more than happy to sign their names and addresses to petitions."

The conclusion? "The system is alive and well."

But, Reed is wrong. Here's why.

What the Secretary "is not seeing" is that 2.2 million people did not sign petitions this summer because he has promised to disclose their names to the public to be harvested for direct marketing and in the case of R-71, personal attacks, threats and harassment.

They signed petitions in spite of Reed's policy and because of the extreme inefficiencies they see in the present state government and are willing to risk the personal exposure of the Secretary's policies.

Should Secretary Reed decide to publish how each citizen voted on their ballot, I bet most would also continue to vote. But it would not be right.

The motivation of record numbers of people to participate is not found in the "Secretary's System" of disclosure, but in the frustration with the present lack of leadership in the state.

Many feel Governor Gregoire, and her left to far left majority in the Legislature, is doing a terrible job of leading the state. Initiatives and referenda are one of the few ways people can save themselves from their government. In spite of Reed's policy.

My friend Bob Williams and Evergreen Freedom Foundation has been consistently exposing and commenting on the fiscal fiasco of state government.

Within the past few weeks they have exposed that 68 Washington State public agencies are either improperly reporting their lobbying expenses or not reporting them at all.

Is discloser selective?

Williams and his Foundation are assisting a group of citizens who have filed a lawsuit against Governor Gregoire for "abuse of power". I have linked the information.

Reed is wrong. Perhaps he is warming himself by the embers and afterglow of the left wing campfire in Olympia.

And the smoke has gotten in his eyes causing him to "certainly not see."

R-71 Names Go Back to Court

I know its been a long and winding road since we first filed to seal the names of those who signed the R-71 petitions. The reason we have been persistent in the matter is because we don't want the long and winding road to lead to the doors of those who signed the petitions.

Many of you have told me through email, etc., that you really don't care if they have your name or not. I understand that, otherwise I would have stayed in the shadows as some did.

However, there are those who have a specific and legitimate concern. One example is a case where a mother who helped gather signatures was called and a death threat was made against her. Her young son took the call. You can imagine how that traumatized a young boy. He is still dealing with it. There is more to the story. I'll share it at a later time.

There are college students who, along with their families, are concerned that one of their gay activist professors who are outspoken in the classroom will see their name on the list and they will face some kind of recrimination.

US District Court Judge Benjamin Settle, who originally blocked the release of the R-71 names last fall, will revisit the case.

He has set a conference to see how he will proceed for next Wednesday, August 11th.

Although his ruling was overturned by both the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, the Court left open the possibility of a narrower challenge to the release of names on a specific petition, such as R-71.

This will be our "as-applied" challenge. We are now asking for the names of only R-71 to remain sealed, as opposed to our earlier, broader challenge.

The R-71 names have remained sealed for nearly a year, however, there are still a number of homosexual activist groups with requests for the names pending.

Some in the faith community have criticized our continued efforts on this issue, we feel, however, it is a worthy effort and will exhaust all opportunities to protect those who should have the right to participate in the democratic process without fear of harassment or bullying.

I spoke with our lead attorney, James Bopp, Jr., yesterday afternoon. He feels confident that by asking the Court to seal only the R-71 names, we have a good chance of prevailing.

A Prayer for Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens has gained international recognition for mocking and attacking God, Jesus Christ, personal faith, the Bible, the virgin birth of Christ, Christianity and all things religious and sacred.

In 2007, he wrote the book, "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything," and this summer he has been promoting his newly released memoir, "Hitch-22."

Everything changed for him 60 days ago.

He tells Vanity Fair Magazine (September 2010 issue) :

"I have more than once in my time woken up feeling like death. But nothing prepared me for the early morning last June when I came to consciousness feeling as if I were actually shackled to my own corpse. The whole cave of my chest and thorax seemed to have been hollowed out and then refilled with slowly-drying cement."

Christopher Hitchens has been diagnosed with cancer--likely terminal cancer.

"In whatever kind of 'race' life may be," Hitchens writes, "I have very abruptly become a finalist."

He says, "I have been taunting the Reaper---I am badly oppressed by a gnawing sense of waste. I had real plans..."

Hitchens writes, "Against me is the blind, emotionless alien, cheered on by some who have long wished me ill. But on the side of my continued life is a group of brilliant and selfless physicians plus an astonishing number of prayer groups."

He says, "I am quietly resolved to resist bodily as best I can, even if only passively, and to seek the most advanced advice."

A prayer for Christopher Hitchens:

May he discover, in his great time of need, the grace and love of God. May he discover that the God whom he rejected is faithful and just and will not reject his appeal for mercy.

May he find forgiveness and spiritual restoration through the person and power of Jesus Christ. Although he has mocked and marginalized Him, may he know that He stands at the door and knocks. And may he discover there is a difference between religion and a personal relationship with Jesus.

May God's Holy Spirit bear the witness of Truth to Christopher Hitchens as He did to Saul of Tarsus.

And may Hitchens write of this transforming experience should he, as he quotes his father as saying, "be spared."

We are strongly endorsing and asking you to re-elect Justices Jim Johnson and Richard Sanders to the Washington State Supreme Court.

Jim Johnson is a constitutionalist, dedicated to preserving the constitution and law as written. He was the fifth and deciding vote in 2006 that stopped the effort to have court ordered homosexual "marriage" in Washington State.

He has consistently defended values and rights that are important to people of faith.

The contrast between Justice Johnson and his opponent is striking. His opponent serves on the board of Planned Parenthood and has said he would have voted in favor of homosexual marriage. His opponent is endorsed by Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the state Democratic Party among others.

Justice Johnson must receive 50% plus one vote in the Primary to be elected. Please forward this to all on your list.

Richard Sanders is a keen legal mind and understands the fundamental American principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility, free enterprise and limited government.

He is a courageous spokesman for the pro-life movement.

He has long been a target of the left as they have consistently tried to defeat and remove him from the State Supreme Court.

He too, must receive 50% plus one vote in the Primary to win.

It is critical that both these men be retained on the Court. Please forward this to all on your list.

Vote for Johnson and Sanders for the Washington State Supreme Court.

Congressman: "Government can do most anything in this country"

US Congressman Pete Stark, representing the San Francisco Bay area's 13th District and chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, was trying to defend Obamacare to a reporter at a town hall meeting. He was making the case that health care is a "right" in this country, just like life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And yes, government could force people to have health insurance.

The questioning continued, asking how people can be forced to buy health care and other inconvenient questions related to Obama's new health care plan. Referencing the 13th Amendment, the reporter asked, "What constitutional limits are there on government?"

Congressman Stark's frustrated response?

"Federal government can do most anything in this country." I have linked the short video.

Sheriff Paul Babeu, from Pinal County, Arizona, told the press yesterday:

"Our government has become our enemy."

Babeu told CNS NEWS, "What's troubling is the fact that at a time when we in law enforcement and our state need help from the federal government, instead of sending help, they put up bill board size signs warning our citizens to stay out of the desert in my county because of dangerous drug and human smuggling and weapons and bandits and all these other things and then, behind all that, they drag us into court with the ACLU."

As you know, the federal government has taken legal action against the state of Arizona and a majority of its citizens.

Can the federal government do "most anything in this country?"

It seems as the federal government expands---exponentially, Congressman Stark's notion is becoming more and more of a reality. And too many lawmakers have come to believe it.

This past week we became aware of the Obama administration's considerations of how they might "back door" amnesty and defer enforcing immigration laws, while continuing the benefits to illegals. And I suspect offer them voter registration with their ill gotten driver's license as ID.

In what has become known as "the memo," an internal document, the administration was exploring ways to circumvent lawmakers and the enforcement of existing immigration laws through deferred enforcement and other slight of hand tricks.

It does not seem to matter that illegal immigration is not only helping to bankrupt the country, but is deeply dividing it and compromising our national security.

While Rome burns, Nero fiddles with his classroom, far left, socialistic ideology. One intended to "remake" America---the greatest nation in the history of the world, into an "also ran" European type socialistic state.

A plan:

Resist: People of faith and conservatives must resist the relentless attempt to "remake America."

Reclaim: The upcoming election is a first step in reclaiming a government that is by and for the people.

Repeal: As of yesterday 59% of America favor repealing Obamacare. If we can elect enough new lawmakers who will support and uphold conservative, Judeo-Christian fiscal and social values and principles, much of the damage to our country can still be repealed.

Restore: With values oriented lawmakers, we can begin the process of re-enacting laws and policy that will return America to her foundations and her greatness.

"Watch the Kid or We're Gonna Kidnap Him"

Homosexual activists are energized and on the march this summer.

After taking a few days to rest and reflect and pray, observe and discern the ebb and flow of the raging cultural battle for the soul of America, our communities and future generations, it is clear that this is the greatest American battle in recent history. And the assault on the unborn child and the relentless attack on natural marriage and family leads the battle. It is a spiritual battle.

Those seeking to "normalize" homosexual relations and redefine marriage are, in my opinion, not seeking equality so much as affirmation of a perverted, chosen lifestyle.

Rebellion toward the Creator.

Very soon we will be reporting on a couple of news items that we, and others, feel should be made public. Both involve elected officials. Please watch for these reports.

The national Organization for Marriage is in the process of holding about 23 rallies this summer in as many different cities, mostly in the east.

In every case they begin with local clergy or leadership leading in a prayer for those involved in homosexual relations, expressing, as we have done so often, that they do not hate the person, nor does God, but that they are resisting the redefinition of marriage and standing for natural marriage. The rallies are similar to the one Larry Stickney and I led at the Capitol last year. Many of you attended.

At each event, homosexual activists attempt to shout down the person giving the prayer and all others who try to speak on behalf of natural marriage.

The activists are also bullying and attempting to silence the pro-marriage people with intimidation and threats.

In Albany, New York, activists actually marched onto the platform in their attempt to shut down the rally while other homosexual activists followed an Hispanic mother and her children around behind the stage area where she was seeking privacy to nurse her baby . The mother is visibly shaken as you will see in the linked video.

In Providence, R.I., the activists were even more aggressive and threatening, targeting young children and their parents with threats and intimidation, telling one family, "You better watch that kid or we're gonna kidnap him."

Just as extreme and perverted acts characterize the "Gay Pride Parades," bullying, harassment and intimidation define the homosexual activists who seek to redefine marriage and family and normalize that which is not and affirm a lifestyle that is both immoral and destructive.

On a related note, President Obama has assisted the international Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission in gaining official status at the United Nations. Many nations oppose this on moral grounds.

Matt Barber, at Liberty Counsel says, "This once again just highlights the fact that President Obama is in the tank of the radical homosexual lobby."

Barber points out that our President worked to sidestep normal procedures to help the homosexuals gain status at the UN. He said, "[Obama] has thumbed his nose at all of the countries around the world that embrace sexual morality---and the President, in the name of the United States of America, has once again, embraced sexual immorality."

President Obama is calling his actions, "An important step forward for human rights."
